The KK bootloader prevents earlier ROMs from being flashed in recovery?
The KitKat bootloader prevents any jellybean rom from flashing.

If you're on KitKat, you aren't using a jellybean rom. Period.

You aren't getting both.

Unless you want a hard brick phone from which it will not awaken.

Yeah, you could flash a jellybean rom on a KitKat bootloader, but it's bootloop at the least, a nightmare at worst. I wouldn't want either.

I just want to clarify that I understand this correctly. If I use Josh’s Native Hotspot Mod, along with his AOSP MMS Mod, it will address the issue with Hotspot Mod breaking the Native MMS.

Was on Jellybomb until yesterday, but decided to go KitKat so I will be ready for K3 when it drops.

Correct. The aosp one will replace the native one amd it works. You could also just use hangouts. Thats what I use.

JoshBeach are you still planning on trying to resolve the messaging app problem or just going to not worry about it?

This has to do with the Native Hotspot mod right? I'm on Stock Rooted NAB... was a solution ever figured out and posted? if so could you link me? The hotspot mod was the only reason i rooted my N3 in the first place... Thanks!

Josh, when we were installing hotspot mod on 4.3, we just wrote over a couple of files with root explorer. Any chance you will be able to have a similar process with 4.4? I'm rooted, but don't want to install a custom recovery. Thanks.

Josh, sorry that I dont understand. With 4.3, you provided 2 files (not Zip) that we used to overwrite 2 other files. Now you have 2 zip files which will have to be installed with a custom recovery. I prefer not to install a custom recovery and I am rooted. Is there another way to get your Hotspot Mod on 4.4 without custom recovery? Thanks!

The test mods that Josh has previously posted were deodexed only, so unless you can find a deodexed ROM that you can flash in Odin, you'll need a custom recovery anyways. Unless he can post a deodexed framework-res but I don't understand enough about the process to know if that's feasible. I'm also hoping for an odexed version of the mod for those who like to stay stock rooted, like you, but we'll have to wait and see.

Still test mods. Deodexed only for now. And the test uploaded breaks mms. The othrr zip is to replace mms.

I did get a fixed hotspot mod but havent uploaded yet...
