Surely you could change the array in the smali to read from a settings database array. In the same way as lockscreen shortcuts.

Is it possible to have same app running in both windows? It would be great to have two browser windows running side by side

Still think adding to a settings db entry so people can add on the fly from the apps in their drawer while booted would work without the need to update apks. Will look when s2 or note gets jb.

Paul O'Brien looked into this, and it was not very simple to do at all, involved a lot of different changes all over the place to get this to work which is not very suitable as you would have to update everything all over again for each new rom version.

This method is simple enough to update for new roms, just change one xml in one apk.

Ideally app devs will start to add their own support for this feature so hacks won't be so important.

removing it completely wouldn't be that easy, there is lots of code in lots of different places to make it work, the best bet would be to hide it (long press back) and just don't use it, or find the code where it tells the back button what to do and disable it there.
