I thought I would share you you the mods I have tried and got working with the google edition rom 4.2.2. As a disclaimer I am using the AT&T S4 Active with hash's safestrap. Please send me the mods you have tried that have worked, thanks!

Flash these at your own risk, I always recommend backing up first

1. Inverted google apps with more features for the MMS app here (use the Jelly bean files ONLY use the MMS apps, it is the only one confirmed to be working)
2.. Different battery icons (In theory these should work but they haven't been tested yet) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2342628
3. Xposed module GravityBox will give you a LOT of mods

I am seeking a % battery mod with transparency built in. The only one I found had a ugly icon lol please let me know if you find it.

I am running SafeStrap 3.06 and GE AOSP ROM.

I just tried installing inverted apps (Contacts and Calendar) and a battery mod (Android with percentage) and now my ROM won't boot :(. It just sits at the nexus booting screen forever, guess one of those three don't work with this ROM. BTW I only installed the .zip flashable JB inverted apps, not the APK's they have listed.

Thanks for the info, but I'm going to stay clear of these for now - looks like I have to restore my backup I had made a few days ago (I should have made one before flashing these smh) - which sucks because I have to re-install and configure all my apps and home screen icons/widgets. :(

EDIT: I hopped into TWRP and restored ONLY /system not /data and it looks like the above mods were restored to stock and the ROM booted without an issue (it just had to re-initialize all my apps on first boot). I am not back up and running exactly as I was before I flashed those files above, didn't have to re-set anything up!

Now I'm off to do an UPDATED backup in TWRP so I can mess with stuff without having to worry... I'm still going to stay clear of these for a while though ;)

Sorry to hear of your troubles I only tried the MMS inverted app and assumed the rest were fine. I updated the post with your findings

I've had great luck using the Xposed module GravityBox. Allows for all sorts of stuff for AOSP ROMs.

It's really sweet. A lot of the tweaks, you don't even have to reboot the device after engaging. I do anyway, but only after a batch operation. Plus I love that I can see how a tweak works before rebooting.

This would be a great mod even if it only included the "Quick Settings" modding feature (the lack thereof was my only major dislike with this ROM). But the variety of other features make it a must-have for me.

This sounds awesome, modification of the quick settings is a must-have, I agree there. I'm just afraid to try anything else on this ROM until I can do a backup of it... as soon as I can do that, xposed is getting installed! lol There's a few features on there I've been wanting, from what I saw in the screenshots.

Try the power toggles app in the play store. it also has battery percent built in to the status bar. Very customizable. And looks like its skined for the aosp
