I just tried this on my LMG710EM, and can verify that it works.
I followed these instructions, which are pretty much the same as in the first post, but more verbose: https://www.theandroidsoul.com/lg-g7-root/

Things to consider:
- Unlocking bootloader will wipe user data (and void your warranty)
- Unlocked bootloader will show an extra "Device cannot be checked for corruption - lock bootloader" message when (re)starting the phone.
- You will probably get an extra popup telling you that "There's an internal problem with your device. Contact your manufacturer for details" when the phone starts. This has something to do with build fingerprinting or something, but should be fixable somehow (a common issue, it seems). Still investigating.

It would be great if someone in the know could help answers a few of the above questions. I've tried my best below, with my limited knowledge coming from an HTC 10;

The boot.img has been patched for use with magisk which is systemless so in theory, we should still be able to receive OTA updates.

However if the patched boot.img causes issues with OTA updates, I guess we would need to overwrite the patched version with the original. Has anyone got a copy/link for the original?

As for relocking the bootloader, I can't find anything about how to do this for the G7, but I did find this for the G5 - https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g5/help/relock-bootloader-lg-g5-h850-t3522861
Looks like we would need a copy of the stock rom & boot image, again anyone got a copy/link of the original ROM?

Just got new toy and rooted, many thanks; for the record:
Flashed patched boot A and B, Resulted in root but unable to install any magisk modules. Just re-installed via MagiskManager, then fully worked.
I'm getting a popup every reboot saying that system had malfunction but I think that's for boot checking.

Everything is OK, just enjoying now the DAC with V4A :D
Do you know how to tint navbar? missmatching light colors are driving me nuts!

Hi guys, i managed to root, thank u so much, but i have too problems now that maybe are related to the root or another thing, i don't know. 1. The slow motion mode in camera don't work 2. The audio files of WhatsApp don't work, send and received files, it says me that i have a problem with the mic and i must try in another time. I tried to erase data and Uninstall the app then re install but i had the same problem. What can i do? Thanks in advance.

Edit: guys no audio here from anything, music, youtube, ringtone, nothing. Whats can happened? And no video recording in all modes.

need your help. I flashed a boot img and tried to boot from the recovery into the system. Bootloop! After trying to boot into recovery, but then was gone. the smartphone was trying to do a factory reset, which did not work anymore at 100%. Now I'm in the boot loop and it is not recognized by lgup

Great!!! Hoping to pick one of these up soon....hopefully, custom ROMs are not too far off

So we all know the g7 is an awesome phone but for it to be rly great we alwayxs need root and mods , now its possible, this is only for the G710EM Variant since the us one doesnt have a bootloader unlock yet
