Mod with silicone case

does anyone know if the magnets are strong enough to hold the phone in place on the touchstone with a very thin plastic/rubber tpu case on it?
I have done the mod using a TPU case and they do hold in place. However, thinking that every milimetre counts, I put the pre charging loop inside the TPU case but outside the N7100 case to make it that much closer. My case is partly transparent, so have attached a picture of what it looks like from the back.

There is a slight bulge on that picture which I have since tidied up by soldering the copper tape to the loop contacts. I could also tidy it more by routing one of the copper strips across the back on the inside of the case but that only occurred to me after fitting it together and at this moment I don't care enough about the looks, I'm happy it's working.

It stays on OK but would not take much to knock it off the touchstone. Due to the rear stand, I had to put the loop lower down the back and off-centre, so it is about as unstable as it could be. If you dont have a case with this feature, you could put the loop where it is supposed be and I think you would have much more stability.

I can attach more photos of the inside etc if anyone is interested.

Thanks for the info on the original mod guys!

I did the same mode on my note2. I'm using a ultra thin TPU case. One of the thing I did to improve the grip is to file down the touchstone surface. Put a sand paper (I'm using 1000+2000 grit) under your case and file it down to minimize the gap between the touchstone surface and your note 2.

Arg! This is not going well. So I've got a Sprint GN2, a Palm Pixi back cover and a Palm Pre touchstone dock. The inductive receiver and the dock are working, I get 5.6 volts. I connect them to the pins that I had to dremel out the back of the GN2 to find and it doesn't seem to recognize it. It remains at 5.6volts so it's like it's not even connected but I've metered it out and unless I'm going senile(which I guess I kind of am) it's got continuity.

I see one poster in this thread got the Sprint version working. Is there anything special that has to be done like a software setting?

thanks

does anyone have an issue where after the phone reaches 100% battery charged, then the phone disconnects from the touchstone and then recharges about 2 minutes later when the phone battery goes down to 99%, this continues repeatedly (the screen turns on and makes the beeping sound to denote wireless charging it connected. thanks

Mine doesn't do that, it just stays permanently on fully charged 100%.

Return/exchange your Touchstone. When Palm existed, there was about a 50% return rate for defective Touchstones. The coils were ever so slightly misaligned and caused continuous topping-off and discharging cycles. Actually, now that I think about it, maybe the return rate was higher: my experience was about 1 in 3 Touchstones working correctly. At the time, I got all of mine from Amazon, so exchanging was simple.

Big thanks to you. This helped me get my Sprint GN2 working. It turned out I soldered the positive to the wrong pad.
Oh i'm glad it helped, I got it all working for me in the end too but then never fully fitted it as I am /still/ waiting for my case to build it permanently into... damn Chinese shipping speed....

I did it too!! It works.
I want to share my expierence as success came not from the first try.
a) Charget matters. Iphone or original or any deliverig 1A should work. My problem was that I used 2A charger from DX deal...it was less than 1A, so I was getting connect/disconect issue...
b) cover matters. Original cover is thin and Note sticks to Touchstone well. Of course charging is good. At the begining I used flip cover, it doesn't stick well and charging does not start. I compared both covers. Flip cover is thicker in the middle, it has thicker square area in the middle.

Searched the thread, seems like the answer is "probably" but I was wondering if anyone has actually done it...

Will this work with cm10?

how long it takes to charge the battery, because using a wired charger <2amps takes many hours, this wireless charger charges it faster?

affects any functionality of the phone while it is charging?

So i've finally got my qi charger pad and phone insert ( same Chinese version as many on this thread ) and i'm not at all impressed.

The phone insert makes the back and edge buldge totally runining the look and feel for me.

I only got the phone to detect the charger once and now of refuses to make a connection so I think i'll wait unless either a better one is produced or samsung release a new back with the qi capability built in

It depends on the distance from the phone to the charger, but I read somewhere in this post (or in the no soldering MOD) that it charges about 12% per hour.

A while go Frank2 posted a website to a good German tutorial for both palm cases Pixi & Pre, I hope this helps anyone unsure of how to complete this mod. The Palm Pre case is in line with the charging pins for polarity. i'm unsure about the Palm Pixi but the tutorial has instructions for it aswell.
