My GF has a Note 2 from US Cellular.

Popped off the battery cover and right off the bat you can tell its different from the international version because it lacks the two charging points......but I wondered if they were under the plastic back plate but just not visible.....so she dove in and tore it apart.

Used a disassembly video we found on YouTube....so I wont bother with the "unscrew this" - "pry here" crap.

This is what you see once you get it apart.

See them two little spots....yep, thats what your looking for.

Now I gotta "modify" read "hack the **** out of" the back cover so you can access those little points with the phone reassembled......so I used a dremel to hog out the back plate.

Stick all the Palm crap on the original battery door......see those little fingers are going to fit thru the hole and contact the charging points on the circuit board.

.......and success. WIRELESS CHARGING

What dremell drill bit (or whatever it's called for dremells) did you use? I don't own one and will be buying one for this hack. I want to make sure I get the right thing.

Thanks!

So I took the plunge and made this mod on my Verizon Note 2. It was actually quite easy to do and was a success. I was hoping that by performing the mod it would also work with my HP Tablet wireless charger but no. I have found that the wireless charging system as a whole is VERY sensitive to positioning. That is, where ever you mount the wireless coil within the back cover of the phone... you have to be sure that area is aligned pretty much exactly with the Palm Touchstone charger or it won't pick up the induction. Pretty certain that the coil for the HP tablet charger is much larger in size than the Palm Pre charger and therefore impossible to align with the small coil in the phone.

Another area of sensitivity has to do with 'distance' from the charger. You have to have the phone against the charger for it to pick up the induction as well. If you have any kind of a case, in my configuration I have an Otterbox case, it will not charge. After having confirmed that the process does work however, I will look to move the charging coil from inside the phone to outside the phone and attached to my Otterbox case. I used 30guage wire wrap wire to connect to the charging pads on the main circuit board of the phone than drilled two 1/16th inch holes just above those pads in the frame so the wires would come through and are accessible to the coil. I made them long enough to take the back case off in the event I would need to do a battery pull reset or even change the battery for that matter. I can easily drill 2 more 1/16" holes in the back cover of the phone and allow those wires to come all the way through where I can have them attached to the coil once I move it to the Otterbox case. I am hoping that the thickness of the rubber will not interfere with the induction process and that the phone will still charge as it should. If it does work I'll be designing a desk top dock and print it on my 3d printer with the palm touchstone charger built into it so I can just set my Note 2 into the dock, Otterbox case and all... and it will both align with the charger and be positioned in such a fashion that I can set it next to my monitors in my office or on the head board of my bed where it functions as my alarm clock.

I will report back either way once I have completed that task.

I noticed the same thing about the TouchPad Touchstone - the coil sits high. I have 3 TouchPads and 4 Touchstone chargers, so i am investigating pulling the coil from a TP. I have an eBay back cover, which has the charging coil still in it, on its way to me and will play around. Hedging my bets with an order for all the Pre kit as well.
I will let you all know how it goes.
EDIT
Looks like its a nogo on the ThinkPad coil pull as the charging circuitry resides on the Mother Board of the ThinkPad.

Does the magnet(s) effect the operation of the s-pen? This is a well know issue with covers/cases with a magnetic latch for Note 2. Or are are the magnets too week to effect the s-pen?

I have an idea on my mind but I need to know something... when the phone it's charging wireless and you put the wired charger... what happens? Wireless stops or it charges from both?

in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=33981565 the OP said that he had to place the receiver low down in the back to avoid s-pen problems (only while charging presumably since the magnets are in the charger not the receiver)
I had not read that when I did mine and placed the receiver about 2mm from the edge of the NFC pad, just tested my s=pen and it works fine on my international 7105.
very happy with the mod the magnets position the phone perfectly and it is held in place nicely so you can prod the screen without it moving.
Thanks to all who came up with this cool mod

Hey guys

So I used a pixi case for this mod. I got it to work, it shows that it charges. I used aluminum foil tape instead of copper. Sometimes it charges about 10% per hour, but sometimes well not much at all. Could it be that the aluminum foil tape is not carrying enough current?

Thanks!

Sounds like bad connection.

Do this:

Test with copper wires.

I've been running this mod for about 8 months now without any issues.

Just to let people know if you buy an ultra thin tpu case you can leave it on while charging. The magnets still hold and charge still gets through....!
