[MOD] Smooth Scrolling Mod for Mahdi/CM11S/crDroid

Wow, it's nice to see someone else at last confirm the scrolling problem. I made a post over at OnePlus forums about it ( https://forums.oneplus.net/threads/oneplus-one-doesnt-feel-faster-than-my-nexus-4.76950/ ) and everyone just pretty much rubbished my claims. It seems like the garbage collection is to blame after all, and why switching to ART eliminates that problem.

Is there any possibility of doing this mod for the Stock CM11S kernel in future?

I personally use ART myself and it makes a difference even on ART. This mod isn't dependent on the kernel, its dependent on the ROM.

I included a revert zip that I will remove after you confirm that it works, I just added it as a backup incase it doesn't work on stock. Pretty confident that it'll work but better safe than sorry right?
Edit: Wow I was exactly on par with 5 minutes lol.

Well, it successfully booted up at least after patching, hard to tell if it's sorted the jerky scrolling in FB and Tapatalk, but I'm seeing no garbage collection spam in catlog so that's good. Scrolling's marginally more smoother if I set the kernel profile to Performance, guess I'll need to try Franco kernel next!

Yes you can use ART on any ROM with this mod. Use whatever setting you choose to.

Revert zip is simply back to the stock file before the changes were made. Franco Kernel does definitely help, I'm not the biggest fan of Qualcomm's mpdecision. I remembered when tapatalk lagged you could go into dev options and enable 2D GPU rendering and it would fix the lag problem. I'm going to remove the revert script and add CM 11S 25R to OP.

As of right now, I'm supporting a lot of ROMs and I really don't mind downloading the ROM but if you request for a ROM. In order for me to maintain the mod for future updates on your ROM, I need to have reasonable demand for it in terms of downloads. If I see that there isn't much downloads compared to another ROM then I will most likely not update it as much. I will also most likely NOT do any roms that update on a nightly basis, that would be too much for me to maintain that mod for a ROM I don't even use.

So far after day 1 here are the following statistics,
Mahdi 08/07: 30
CM11S XNPH25R: 11
PA 08/06: 4
PA 07/29: 1
... If you guys enjoy the mod, please give me a thanks. I would highly appreciate it as I'm doing as much requests as I can without asking for anything in return so it would go a long way for me.
Would also love feedback/review on whether or not you guys notice a difference or not.

Specific to M9. The change for smooth scrolling is done on the framework which is a crucial file for Android and is most likely changing on every nightly.

I don't use CM and doing the mod on a daily basis for every nightly is pretty ridiculous for me to do. The best advice I can say is switch to another rom. Give it a try, make a nandroid backup and try a new rom. Don't like it? Restore back. Else keep it.

I officially support Mahdi rom everything else is still up for decision based on the number of downloads or feedback I get from a particular rom. If there isn't enough interest then I will stop supporting it as it isn't worth my time to have it updated just for let's say... 5 people whereas others are having 20+ people using the mod.

Hahah no worries ... its easy to do this mod, its just... well, maintaining all of them when there are new updates will be the time consuming. I have fast internet so downloading the rom zip isn't a problem. Just when the school semester starts up again, I won't have this much time to update right away but will update later in the day probably.

BTW, where in NYC are you? I was born and raised in the Lower East Side. I live in Texas now, but man do I miss NYC sometimes!

I'm in Brooklyn I go to school in Manhattan. Booo! I want to live outside the city, its too crowded here and the people here aren't really my kind of taste. People are always on the go and its annoying plus.. there are awkward people here always begging for money on the trains.

Born and raised for 24 years in LES, then got married, moved to Teaneck, NJ, few years later, bought a Condo Upstate in Newburgh, NY....then my company moved me to Houston, TX last year and I plan on being here forever. As much as I love and miss NY sometimes, you couldn't pay me enough to move back. That whole Southern Hospitality thing is true...the people here are awesome.

I never thought that I'd be able to leave either. Especially since my wife and I have all of our friends and fam in NYC and we're very close to them. Not sure if you have kids or not, but once you do, it changes your perspective on things and I didn't want them growing up in NYC, or anywhere else on the East Coast LOL Things are just so much better once you get away from the oppressive and expensive North East. I have some of my own fam and friends that have come to visit wanting to move out of NYC now LOL

Nope I don't have kids lol.. how come not in NYC or anywhere on the east coast? You don't want them growing up weird its weird that NYC schooling is all about violence and whatnot but in other places its about teen drama and relationships haha. Im just sick of the 1 hour+ commuting I just end up taking a nap on the train. And yup, nyc u get 1/10th of what you get. Only 2-4 bedrooms, 1 living room, basement, kitchen, 1-2 bathrooms, small backyard
