*Dont you hate when you like a theme but hate the icons!!! I will give you a simple guide to download the theme you want and keep your stock icons;)

~Keep your stock icons for any theme~

*ROOTED REQUIRED*

*Please read complete guide*

*Make sure you are not using the theme you are applying this to! Apply a different theme while your editing this file!

1. Using a file explorer, go to data/overlays/jsonfiles/userjson and find the theme you want to keep stock icons!

2. Open file and hit the edit button! Look for this line a little ways down:

"appicon":"com.cambunch.ThemeName.appicon",

and delete it! Save file and reboot!

3. Now you can go to theme store and apply that theme and have stock icons;)

***This should work for any theme in userjson file, just follow same steps and remember to save and reboot before you apply theme!!!

***JUST HIT THANKS IF YOU THINK THIS IS FRICKIN AWESOME***

I figured. Not good for me than. Ehhh no big deal I don't mind paying, except the fact that I think themes are way too expensive

You should close this thread. Not a good idea. Paid themes should be paid for. There is a lot of work developers put into their themes

I was actually just using TitaniumBU to uninstall the separate parts of the theme which works great as well. But, one thing I could not do unless I use your method is get rid of the ugly skinny lockscreen font that is only found in the file path you mention. Finally I can use the blackOn theme without that ugly font as well as getting rid of settings and both input methods to have the stock looking keyboard. I haven't had anything crash on applying themes even with multiple parts of the theme uninstalled or deleted from the file so everyone wanting to modify its safe when doing these deletions.

I just noticed that using icons other then stock icons seem to stay put for me while I'm using nova launcher. Not sure if nova overrides the theme engine or what but it works flawlessly. I mainly just use the themes to get a custom notification panel and dialer since I haven't rooted since upgrading from my N4.

This hasn't worked for me on any theme I've tried so far.

Download the theme, then edit, then reboot. If you apply the theme first before editing & rebooting it won't work. I've had existing downloaded themes that this didn't work for. I had to uninstall, reboot, redownload, edit, reboot, then apply & it worked fine. Works on every theme I've tried & I've tried quite a few.

I could have SWORE I rebooted the first couple times. I may be wrong. Sorry for wasting your time. I did it again. Rebooted now it's working. My mistake might have been that I probably did a hot reboot instead of a full reboot. All is well now. Thanks again!!!

@Goody68

I figured out that, in the same file where you delete the app icon line, you can't actually substitute a theme attribute with one's from another theme. For instance. Here is a screenshots of my current setup. (You should add this to the op and throw a brother a shout out!) Lol ?

Dark night - base theme
Fantasy white - icons (ios icons)
Dark sd - AccuWeather

Screenshots of the lines I changed for reference.
