I reckon it can be done, I'll look into it.

EDIT:

Well, I seem to come across the same problem I did when I tried this on the legend, each loop device I try seems to be busy. I'll keep trying though...

I have an Epic and Was thinking can I use it as a bluetooth keyboard and mouse to control my Pad, Hmmm lol

Maybe soon ill control ubuntu on my pad with my epic haha.

Then It would be an epic Tab, With a full OS and Galaxy Mouse and Keyboard.

It's interesting but not smoothy and not optimise for galaxy tab but it's a great job.

Sent from my GT-P1000 using XDA App

just to get some more info...

how capable is this? for example, if i have some hardware that can pair with a Laptop running Ubuntu over Wifi, BT or USB will it also work on this?

to be specific, i would be trying to communicate with a BT/Wifi or USB to RS-232 serial adapter to datalog engine parameters.

Not really sure, But I will definitely.
I am going to try to use my epic as an keyboard and mouse over wifi with the tab. So I am going to see if it installs the client on ubuntu. Also going to see if I can directly connect my epic with the ubuntu client. Will keep updated.

EDIT: Just realised its called external_sd..... No wonder I lost my titanium backup when doing a firmware upgrade!

My Tab seems to map /sdcard as the internal phone memory (looking at it through es file explorer and then as a device in windows). Is that how everyone else sees their file system? I'm wondering how I actually access the sdcard through my phone?

If all the above is fine, then I guess the instructions provided on the epic forums are correct?

dviera88,

Thank you for bringing this item to everyone's attention. If you could please provide the step by step guide (with any differences noted from the original source) it would be super useful. If you could do a video recording that would be even better.

Thank you in advance.

Yep I am going to install the euro firmware right know then will make a video step by step, on installing ubuntu.

it's possibly due to the incorrect ownership of the the /tmp/.X*, you can check it by typing the following command in the terminal:

ls -la <PATH to your LINUX root>/tmp/

If you want to use the X as root, the /tmp/.X* should be owned by root:root (e.g. 0:0). but when you starts the chroot env, the root's gid may using the terminal emulator's gid (e.g. not 0)

to solve this issue, you can change the ownership of <LINUX CHROOT>/tmp/.X* :

    chgrp -R root <LINUX CHROOT>/tmp/.X*

(P.S. please note the possible security issue by the above command, only type the commands when you know what you are doing :-D)

I tried the guide, debian squeeze starts fine
    installed lxde
    installed tightvncserver
    wrote the xstartup
    started the vnc server

and the vnc screen is blank gray with 'x' cursor. anybody experienced this ?
i used 1200 MB for loop file

inside the linuxchroot, i cannot do 'df' and it seems that /proc is not mounted. help.
