Hi and thanks for this excellent post.

I'm in the UK with T Mobile running imilka's CM9, and I just tested LA4, LB1, LB2, LP6, and LR1. I found the modem which gave the fastest speeds and strongest connections was LB2, on both the TM and Orange networks. I haven't tested battery life with it, but given the strength of the connection I think it's less likely to drop and search for other networks as everything everywhere phones do now.

Have other UK TM customers tested these modems, and did you receive different results?

- Galaxy Note N7000, ICS CM9 -
I have used LP5, LP6 and the latest is LR1 with latest Stunner Rom. Using all of these cause data connection to drop every now and then. Often I have to turn off data and then turn on again. I am on 3 UK, so maybe it is just 3's signal. I can't remember how it was when I first got the phone. I bought it from Germany though... I will try LB2 and hope for the best.

Whilst trying to do some testing (by flashing LB2), I managed to break my radio! Spent a day trying to fix it, only to find LB2 and LR1 are exactly the same size and therefore, I deduce, the same code. CWM-flashing LR1.zip eventually worked and now OK.

Would it be possible to use LB2 modem on ICS?

Or are ICS modems are for ICS roms and GB modems for GB roms
Well, it's possible to drive your car with your feet if you wanted to, it don't exactly make it a good idea to do it haha ;-)

Lol, only kidding. Now I'm not sure what the deal is with Samsung devices, but I know the GB basebands work in ICS, But when I used to mess around with my Dell Streak, you needed to match the baseband to the version of Android on your phone. Else things won't work, getting a signal, sound not working etc... There's more to the baseband than just "I get a better signal" or "my battery is better" etc...

I'm sure it probably doesn't matter, but for me personally, if I'm going to run gingerbread, I'll use a GB baseband and like wise for ICS.

Android version: 2.3.6
Baseband version: SC05DOMLCE
Kernal version: 2.6.35.11-SC05DOMLCE-CL1049364

i did not find it on the list. how can i export it?
If you have root on your console and know what you're doing,

dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p8 of=/sdcard/modem.bin

will dump it to the 'modem.bin' file on your internal emmc

BTW I'd like to ask the experts something that intrigued me:

The modem partition has 16777216 bytes while all modems here -- at least several of them -- have exactly only 12583168 bytes.

Is the dumping method which is cutting the images at that offset really sane?

Maybe I'm missing something... just wanted to confirm.

Just switched to RE v7 with LR1 modem. Was on GB with LPT modem before. I use straight talk (att) and now mms doesn't work. Could this be a modem problem? I notice that Apn setting pages are different. Does that change with modem or Rom?

RE also includes MMS no convert mod. not sure what that is and if it could have effect?

Pull out Modem from Stock ROM from www.sammobile.com

Hello all,

Is there a way to pull out the modem from stock ROM?
How?

----------------------------------
Update - in the STOCK ROM zip file I found an MD5 file and in side it there is file modem.bin, are this the Modem file for Odin?

b.t.w. the modem is JKLA3, if is this file I will upload it to here

Thanks!

Thanks for this! I'll be needing stuff here a lot now I'm tinkering with CM9.

I hadn't noticed until I read through my phone details in the settings that my Baseband was XXLA4, the one from the stock GB rom I flashed before installing PA.

I'm not sure if something went wrong, or PA v0.3 really doesn't flash a new modem in with the ROM? Somebody please confirm this.

I'm gonna go ahead and use XXLR1 which OP marked as "latest" and hope there are no problems. :D Little suggestion: for those special "latest" and "popular" tags, put in who it is popular to. :)) Anyway, great work!

Yes I can confirm that PA does not flash a new modem.

I flashed XXLR1 this afternoon and have not had a single problem :D

I'll be flashing XXLR1 too in a while (just downloading a couple of things.) Thanks!

Slightly-off topic but not really: Is GPS functionality based on your modem/radio or is it a separate driver? I think my GPS isn't working. Can't say for sure if it's the Maps app or the GPS itself. I'm not so good with the deep stuff, sorry. :p

If it's not to much trouble, can someone extract the modem from the new Brazilian version ...
N7000UBLPD_N7000ZVVLP2_ZVV
and make a CWM zip file !

I'm not a dev... so, would really apreciate the help!
