I'm new to the Samsung way of doing things, so I have a question.

When I flash a new radio (I guess they're modems in Samsungland), should I be on a stock ROM and update my PRL and profile afterwards?

On my Evo 4G, it was recommended to do that, but I haven't seen it mentioned here. I guess updating your profile and PRL would be a good idea regardless, which would require a stock ROM. Just thought I'd see how everyone else was up/downgrading their modems.

Short answer to your question is yes, but you can update PRL and profile on a good, non-stock rom....

Move your .zip file to internal SD card. I did it the same way you did at first and it didn't work. I moved the .zip to internal SD card instead and it worked that time.
thanks man. i just updated the OP. wish i had seen your post sooner! i went to switch to lf9 from len this morning and ran into the same issue that stevew84 had reported. went through everything step by step...moving files back and forth until it worked. anyway, good catch!

Night and day difference with LF9 vs LG2. Haven't tried LEN yet to compare speeds. Thanks! LG2 was a nightmare here in Houston. I was lucky to get 100kbps downloads with it and it rarely connected to 4g.

On my Evo, I got into the habit of updating my PRL and profile when I would flash a new radio. It still sounds like a good idea. I think it's worth the extra 10 minutes to flash a stock ROM and update that stuff.

I installed lf9 onto the blazer 1.5 rom and the difference is mind boggling. The service was unusable for data in my house with the newest radio. In my house it would always say data roaming and 1x for the signal. The lowest number of bars on 3g if I was lucky. The local sprint guy told me 2013 for 4G in my area so there was never a possibility for that.

Not sure if i got a bad download or what, but when i check my baseband it reads (unknown). now i have no data and can't get my hands on a cable to hook my phone to the computer..AAAHHHHH
I had downloaded the LF9 modem and the back up zip and applied both to internal sd.. not sure what went wrong..

sorry to hear it. i've added md5 values to the OP, that way you can check to see if you got a bad download.

yeah, i checked the MD5 and it's completely different from the one you posted for the LF9 modem. but the back up zip MD5 numbers are the same. so i must have gotten a bad download some how. but i will download from computer when i get home and hopefully that fixes it.. thanks for the MD5

UpDate:: got home to my computer and downloaded a good version of the modem and all is well.. thx again

Anyone having the baseband unknown errors with no service should check the following:

/system/etc/firmware/ I'm assuming there are a lot of files then when it should only be these:

wcd9310
a225_pfp.fw
a225_pm4.fw
a225p5_pm4.fw
a300_pfp.fw
a300_pm4.fw
leia_pfp_470.fw
leia_pm4_470.fw
vidc_1080p.fw
cyttsp_8960_cdp.hex

After removing all but those and rebooting, your service and baseband should return to normal.

I ran several trials to test the connection speeds of the LG2/LEN/LF9 radios and also the difference of setting the network mode to CDMA vs. LTE/CDMA (I'm in an area without LTE coverage). I used the SpeedTest.net app on the latest CM10 build for these tests. Between each set of tests, I rebooted the phone, and made sure no other programs were running in the background. My phone was plugged into power the entire time, and I made sure it was in the exact same place on my table the entire time. I am outside of the Cincinnati, OH area.

Summary (in order of download speeds):
1. LF9 (CDMA Mode) - 987.1 Kbps
2. LF9 (LTE/CDMA Mode) - 541.1 Kbps
3. LEN (CDMA Mode) - 452.5 Kbps
4. LG2 (LTE/CDMA Mode) - 333.3 Kbps
5. LG2 (CDMA Mode) - 314.4 Kbps
6. LEN (LTE/CDMA Mode) - 211.1 Kbps

Summary (in order of upload speeds):
1. LF9 (CDMA Mode) - 693.6 Kbps
2. LEN (LTE/CDMA Mode) - 643.2 Kbps
3. LEN (CDMA Mode) - 373.8 Kbps
4. LG2 (CDMA Mode) - 225.5 Kbps
5. LF9 (LTE/CDMA Mode) - 176 Kbps
6. LG2 (LTE/CDMA Mode) - 174.8 Kbps

See my spreadsheet on Google Docs for the full results.

Same here. Most of my extra files are in the format of "modem.bXX" (modem.b01, modem.b02, etc.) or "modem_fX.bXX" (modem_fw.b01, modem_f1.b10, etc.). I'm guessing they're backup or database files of some sort. They should be safe to delete, but if you're not having problems, I see no reason to risk it.
