Ever since I used kingroot I'm getting that status. "modified system"... So in hopes of fixing it, I ran all the otas from 5.0 to 6.0. Still there. How can I finish rooting?

I don't understand, my brother owns a HTC one m9 Verizon and he just went ahead to unlock bootloader from htcdev ,although its not an m8 but it should be the same plus I unlocked my own sprint without issues and sprint can be a pain I'm contrast to vz what exactly is the response when you try to unlock bootloaderI can't. It isn't the same, unfortunately. Verizon M8 is specifically blocked from unlocking the bootloader via HTCDev.com. This applies to the Verizon version M8 in particular. The only way to root that device is s-off by sunshine. First flash lollipop firmware for Verizon ensure you pick for VZ not international or gsm or sprint orelse you will brick your radio or your device
Then run lollipop RUU
