Hi,

I've been with this phone for 3 days and in general I'm quite happy. However, I find the sound somewhat low and flat so I am looking for some mod and/or music app that improve it.

Viper4Android 1.7 is the only Magisk module that I've been able to operate, but its performance is much milder than in other phones. I've also tried Neutron Player. He takes a good deal of the USB potential but the interface is too shabby...

How do you take advantage of our Essential audio?

PD.: By the way, I'm on stock Oreo 8.1 last compilation.

Thanks audiophiles ;)

I came from the Nexus 5, which had a bad sound card and needed something to help. I used V4A on it, at first I was impressed, but then noticed that it seemed to put a veil over the sound.

I think Essential sound is decent. Instead of modifying the sound internally, I use my Dragonfly Black (a DAC), and am happy with the sound. Since I have to use a dongle to connect headphones, I figure I might as well connect a dongle to the DAC. Essential is supposed to come out with their own DAC, it may be worth waiting for if you don't already have a DAC that you can hook up to the phone. Otherwise there are some good DAC's out there. You'll need a different dongle to make it work, usb-c to usb-a female, or however a 3rd party DAC connects.

Viper4android has been the only one that has worked for me but make sure you disable MusicFX in the system apps or you'll get conflicting audio processing.

But I just switched to this version of V4A and it's much better sounding than the Magisk module in the repo. https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/app-viper4android-fx-2-6-0-0-t3774651

Download the APK install it as a normal app. Launch the app and let it install the driver. It'll install a Magisk Module during this process. Reboot, then install the Audio Mod Library module from the Magisk repo. Reboot again. Make sure MusicFX is disable and adjust V4A to your liking. Should be a better experience

Thanks so much! This version of the module works properly. In addition, I had forgotten to disable the MusicFX... :crying:

PD.: MusicFX can be disabled with apps like SDMaid.

Disable MusicFX by going to Android Settings, Applications, All apps. Then the 3 dots in the top right corner and show system apps. Scroll to MusicFX, tap it, then choose disable.

After doing some more looking and seeing a quote in here I decided to buy usb audio player pro, wow am I impressed, so far my experience is it puts the current viper4android to shame on this phone and is at least 10x louder than poweramp in my opinion
