I've been using it all around NYC. The Verizon version. It's been great. I also used it on a long drive and was perfect. Which version we're you looking to buy?

Well let me know how it works out for you. One thing I can say is compass calibration on maps seems to always be low. But then again, I've had this issue with almost every Android phone I've ever had on multiple carriers. Here is a screenshot. Screenshot_20170707-162002.png

This is also THE major consideration for me in *side-grading* from the Moto G Play which I love, but for its notoriously poor GPS performance.

I am in the same boat. Own a G4 Play, but the GPS just sucks. So moving to the E4.
The GPS and compass are working great for me, I have the unlocked US version
Good to know. My E4 should be here today.

Just a follow up. I commented earlier on having the Verizon US prepaid version. GPS Seemed fine but the compass calibration was always low... Well I did have ONE issue the other night that didn't make any sense. I was walking in Brooklyn to a friends apt and using Google Maps Nav. My devices compass was. Literally pointed in the opposite direction that night. I would walk toward my friends apt but and the dot was moving in the right direction with me... But FACING backwords. So my navigation kept having to correct course. ) This wouldn't correct itself after a reset or calibration. I have not had that issue again since. But it's worth noting.

It's also worth noting that the compass calibration is ALWAYS low. And when you do the weird thing with making a figure 8 three times it doesn't ever improve. Is this because of a sensor or piece of hardware this is missing?

Just for good measure. This is what I'm currently showing under the Moto GPS hardware test. My compass calibration is still low (as always).

It keeps jumping between 13 and 16 satellites. What about you guys? What's normal?Screenshot_20170715-234138.png

I had a moto e2 and it had very poor accuracy when going on runs, sometimes up to a mile off on 10+ mile runs due to extreme jitter. the e4 is much better and now it is within 1/10th of a mile of measured distances.

So... This seems to be the issue... I think the GPS works great. THE COMPASS does not for me lately at all. I've tried calibrating etc. Look the the attached pic. I am facing exactly north right now. My compass was about 45 degrees off.

I have realized that I have had a very similar issue on many phones (on the low end ) that do NOT have a gyroscope. I have downloaded the GPS STATUS & Toolbox app. I have attached some screenshots of what it's showing me as well.

You'll notice in the screenshots I have Bluetooth and wifi on. I have tried this with Bluetooth and wifi off as well in many different areas.

I suppose a side question would be: the GPS and COMPASS are different sensers correct?

I believe this to be the case.

I experience your problem constantly with the G Play, especially when pulling up to a street intersection while using Google Maps. The GPS will show me at the right location -- more or less -- but have me facing the wrong direction and even often backwards, which has Google Maps erroneously directing me to make a U-Turn. My OnePlus One is much better both in terms of accuracy and orientation, but on some lesser occasions, it will still show me traveling at a slight angle (like your screenshot) when viewed on maps.

Received (courtesy of Amazon Prime) and set up an e4 yesterday that I purchased for my brother. Tonight I took it out to test its navigation via Google Maps side by side by with G Play as we drove out to dinner. The difference is night and day. The e4 locked onto the correct location right away and kept it until we arrived at our destination.

Didn't compare cameras. But the fingerprint sensor is quick and accurate. Would recommend this phone straight up; not just in relation to the G4 Play

I have had good luck with the Sprint version specifically using the Nike+ Running app. I always turn OFF the WiFi when I go for a run, because sometimes the GPS-A (I think it's called that) sometimes makes it less accurate.
