Yes. You'll have to reboot to twrp, click on mount then check the box next to oem. Next go to the twrp file manager and etc/motorola/hide/ there is a file named application.xml. Rename the file with a ~ on the end. Then reboot and you should have it working. That file tells the system to hide the hidden menu app, that's why it opens and closes like that.

Sent from my Moto E (4) using XDA Labs
I looked at devices that twrp supports and Moto E4 isn't on the list. twrp supports up to Moto E LTE (Surnia) or E2.

I really am enjoying this thread!
the ##27263# in post #5 did not work for my Boost mobile back here in the UK

I then changed the phone settings with *#*#4636#*#* via the keypad (as advised in post #18)
to the best of my knowledge LTE/UMS Auto (PLL) is the EU setting (that's what my HTC One M8 shows)
I cannot guarantee this though as I've not yet got mine unlocked. Boost were a waste of space.

I have not tinkered with TWRP though as I want to keep the phone as original as possible and sell it on ebay.
It did a fine job for me in the USA, but I have no need of it.

the folks linked on post #18 have guaranteed that my they can unlock my phone for only £11.43.
it has to be done via a Windows PC (probably via ADB?)

so thanks to @amarc78 and @uwapalwa there is light at the end of the tunnel!
I'm going to go down that path today and report back later.

thank you, I'll re-read the thread, and may end up using that website.
if I do succeed I'll post back how I did so.
my Moto E4 is now unlocked for UK use folks - happy days!
mucho kudos to @uwapalwa for the link in his post #18
those guys were nothing short of brilliant, I doubt there is a better unlocker worldwide - I tried so many I nearly gave up.
if you decide to use them be aware that they did it via Teamviewer - I was nervous at first - but it all went well really.

if you do decide to use them though, I would recommend that you message them beforehand with your IMEI, whether your phone is Qualcom or Mediatek chipset (install CPU-Z to find out) and whether or not your Windows ver. is 32 or 64 bit as my setup caused the guy some trouble.

Unfortunately, the etc/motorola/hide/ doesn't seem to exist on the Moto E4 Plus. This approach is interesting to me, though, since we should be able to bypass the SIM lock through firmware mods.

No I have the Xt176, but it's the same process for all of the variants except for verizion
Dude, he's talking about carrier unlock, not bootloader. Since this thread is about carrier or sim unlock

Thanks, are you using the Boost Mobile Variant of the Moto E?
The info given was for bootloader unlock. I assume you mean carrier unlock?

That's correct, carrier unlock. I want to be able to use this on T-Mobile, or even abroad for use with other foreign carriers (speaking of which, does the Boost model even come with GSM capability? Do the GSM bands come enabled out of the box? Or strictly CDMA?). Not interested in attempting on rooting this one just yet. :)
Is it possible to carrier unlock this $50 Moto E4 without having to stick with Boost Mobile's service for 12 months?
