The class of the card is written on it, in an incomplete circle. As far as I can see from pictures on the net, Mobile Ultra cards are class 10 AND UHS-1, which seem to cause problems.
I see that they do now but I have had these cards for a couple of years and they don't have the class written on them. An old order email I had said that they were class 6 which is why I said that. I should also have said that these two cards work fine on my tablet and S3.

Same Problem

I got my Moto G 4G today and have exactly the same problem with my old SanDisk 32GB Mobile Ultra Micro SD Card - Class 10 UHS-1 . The card worked fine in my old Razr i and in my PC. No amount of reformatting or remounting would solve the problem in the new phone. Then I popped it back in my old Razr i and it worked fine in that.

I had an old 2GB class 4 card lying about and put that into the Moto G - and, what do you know, it works fine.

I ordered a replacement card from Amazon before reading this thread and perhaps made a mistake by going for a Samsung 32GB Pro CLASS 10 UHS-I.

Does anyone know if this will work, please?

Another disappointed buyer!!!

Just purchased 2 Moto G 4G's from Phones 4u. My 2 year old SanDisk Ultra 32 GB is not recognised in either phone but it works perfectly in my old Nokia 520 and Huawei Ascend G300. My wife's 2 year old Kingston 8 GB card works in both new phones. I am returning both phones tomorrow - I wish that I had read this thread before purchasing the phones!!!

Return/swap the sdcard not the phone, my 32gb one works fine and as far as i can tell sd card speeds aren't much different with the more expensive models and on transfers your mainly limited to the interface.

I would swap the phone, shouldn't need to buy a slower card for a new phone. May actually bottleneck data transfer down the road.

I would think data written directly to the card from the phone is faster than 2.0, but maybe I'm wrong.

You said transfer so I thought you meant pc > phone transfers, regardless I don't see much of a need for a high speed sdcards until we get faster interfaces on phones. Unless your trying to read/write lossless videos or something large that cant fit on your internal playback even on a 9gb 1080p file downscaled to 720 worked just fine for me.

Well I guess you don't have an problem with going that route, just can't see paying 200 or so for a device and not have it up to par out of the box. Personal preference..

It Is A Known Problem

I found a thread over on the Motorola Community about this. Unfortunately as a new member I'm not able to post a link to it here (stupid rule if you ask me). Just search the community for Moto G LTE SD Card Issues.

It is clear this is a known issue at least with 32GB class 10 cards. People are listing the specific cards with which they've had problems.

I've included mine.

The forum's moderator is saying there will be a software fix from Motorola.

Let's hope it's soon!

PS I thought that I would buy a slow 16 GB card to resolve the problem. Guess what Verbatim 16 GB class 4 cards dont work either - same error message - broken card. Phones 4u may let me pay another £100 for a couple of Sony Xperia M's if head office allow!!! I really like the Moto G but I can not see a software fix working, it must be a Hardware issue. My old Ascend g300 was promised all sorts of fixes but none worked well and the phone was quickly replaced by the G330. I see the same happening again. I just want my money back.

Strangely the new card (Samsung 32GB Pro CLASS 10 UHS-I) works fine so far. Very odd!

I have a Moto G LTE also. I tested a 64 GB Sandisk Ultra I got in 2012 and one I ordered 4 days ago and both would not work. I just ordered a G.Skill 32GB Micro SDHC Flash Memory Card (FF-TSDG32GN-C6) off Amazon for $13, I will let everyone know how it goes when I get it.
I got my G.SKILL 32GB Class 6 Model FF-TSDG32GA-C6P card from newegg.com for $13.49 and it works great. First card I have found that works in my Moto G LTE. I wish is was 64GB but at least it was inexpensive.

Still have my 64gb PNY going, card came up unreadable once after being turned off for a few hours. Once it booted I cleared the cache and mounted it with no problem.

An older Lexar Class 10 32GB card works fine for me. The Sandisk Ultra did not work. Same problems that others are seeing. I sent that one back to Amazon and I am using the older card.

Hello,

My card is: UHS-I SanDisk Ultra microSD HD 32 GB, product SDSDQUA-032G

It works on Samsung Galaxy SIII mini GT-I8190L, but doesn't it on Moto G 4G/LTE XT1040.
Exactly the same situations for me! Same card, and also out of a s3 mini. Does nothing when put in the moto g.

Other 32 card (class 4) works fine and the stock 2gb card that came with the s3 mini also works fine..

After Reading All 6 pages

I think the issue is with kernel (or ROM) of phone and not hardware
also moto e has problems with other fs like ext2,3,4 :( whereas android is linux based still mounted SD with ext2,3,4 doesn't work but some internal partitions are ext4 :-\

AFAIK The card must work with people who have unlocked kernel &/ Custom ROM
