Hello,
the German Site "Areamobile.de" did a Teardown of the Motorola Moto G and guess what, they found a shield looking like there is a Micro SD Card behind it. They had not enough courage to look deeper in to it (tze) and so they asked a Motorola Service Partner which approved their guess and so yes it is true! There is a internal SD Card in the Moto G, but as they claim you can not change it as there are many important parts on the micro SD Card and if you switch the SD-Card only authorized Service Partners can upload a new Software on the Moto G.
What I think, if you open up the shield and replace the SD Card, going in to RSD Lite Mode, you can flash a Stock Firmware Image and everything should be fine.
Some one should look deeper in to it!
