I am planning to flash the retail ROM version to T-Mo locked device. Will this also carrier unlock the device? If not, apart from getting rid of the bloatware, why would this be useful?
How would I SIM unlock my device after flashing retail ROM?

So I unlocked my motorola g play 2021 rooted it and tried to flash twrp onto it whch didnt work. So I flashed the boot.img file and it restarted as a new phone would. The next morning. bear with me here as I think my son got a wild hair and screwed with it. It states no OS present to boot. So I restart the phone to the bootloader and it states the bootloader is locked and now will only restart to the bootloader. When I try to flash the recovery or boot image it just stated bootloader permission denied then it fails. I have been flashing samsungs for years with no problems and when there is I can usually solve it easily. But ths damn motorola has me stumped.. Here is the getvar all info. Any help possible would be greatly appreciated. Guess Im still more of an amature then i thought. Please advise. Thanks

I actually ran this command and it got me back to Android recovery page. But when I try to do a factory reset it says no directory or file present

fastboot --c "console=ttyHSL0,115200,n8" boot recovery.img

I suggest you edit out the IMEI on your post.

Regarding your issue, i think you'll have to do a manual flash of the stock partitions for system, recovery, and boot through ADB. I'm assuming you have the exact stock ROM zip downloaded. It can't be an older version, so in your case the file must be something like guamna-XT2093-3.QZAS30.Q4-39-57-2-2-1-1-3-3-default (or Retail or whichever carrier if you want as close a restoration to when you got your phone. As long as it's that same or newer versioning number sequence.

Moto G Play
I have the Spectrum Variant ( XT2093-4) is this method safe for my device? Sorry if this has been answered or if this is the wrong thread. Just getting back to my Android "roots" after being on Apple devices the past 6 years. I can only imagine the advances and changes since I've been gone. Thanks!

Can you do this even if you have a Ramdisk and use A/B Partitions and SAR?
The requirements are an unlocked bootloader and a boot image to patch(or recovery if your boot image lacks a ramdisk).

Whether you patch with a recovery zip or manually patch with the app and flash, the outcome is the same. If magisk supports it, it will work.

How to unlock bootloader . Oem unlock is greyed out . Can't find anything on this device to help unlock and root
I was worried about that myself, but the gray-out is only temporary - as soon as you toggle the button it merely asks you for your lock code again - DM me back if you find different.

hi bro can you assist with a tutorial to flash and root this fone. I have an AT&T version.
Great - I am still scared to try and have let myself get distracted from this important task but want to pursue it next week. Can you actually accompany my step-by-step or does that tutorial you speak of, do so? :)

It is a "XT2093-3" and I am trying to flash "XT2093-4_GUAMNA_RETCA_11_RZAS31.Q2-146-14-11_subsidy-DEFAULT_regulatory-DEFAULT_CFC" onto it.

I've tried both the LMSA and .bat file routes and in both cases the phone boots without any issues, but the ro.carrier is still "boost" and I have no idea how to defeat that.

(Honestly, my current goal is to get it to accept any sort of Canadian provider SIM)

Could anyone explain to me if that's possible, or if I have misunderstood the limitations of software flash and changing something this drastic is impossible?

Cheers!

This is a modified version of your script which links to the latest build. I tested it successfully but as always, use at your own risk.

Which one? My local T-Mo is offering this or a Moto E 2020. This one's winning. It'll be nice if it can be rooted. Just asking cause T-Mo hasn't been root/bootloader unlock friendly with most of its phones. I saw the E guide.
Yes, this was with a T-Mobile phone. You unlock the bootloader, take boot.img from the lolinet link, patch it in Magisk, and flash through fastboot.

    This looks to be it:

Edit: I can also report that bootloader unlocking and rooting with Magisk works without issue.

FWIW, I wrote a simple linux bash script for flashing the guamna retus 11 stock rom to a Moto G Play 2021 XT2093-4:

    #!/bin/bash
    # guamna-retus-11-flash-script.sh
    echo
echo "Moto G Play 2021 XT2093-4 (guamna) firmware flash script fpr Linux"
echo "For flashing STOCK GUAMNA RETUS 11 firmware to a MOTO G PLAY 2021 XT2093-4"
    echo
echo "THIS SCRIPT IS INHERENTLY DANGEROUS! USE IT AT YOUR OWN RISK!"
    echo
    echo "Mandatory Preparation:"
    echo
echo "1. Back up all desired phone user data. It will be lost."
echo "2. Make sure the phone battery is well-charged"
echo "3. Put phone in fastboot mode: Turn it off, then hold power/volume-down."
echo "4. Connect phone to PC via usb cable."
echo "5. Open a terminal on the PC somewhere writable."
echo "6. Copy this script there and make it executable."
echo "7. Make sure the PC has a working internet connection."
echo "8. Install necessary packages: 'sudo apt install adb fastboot wget unzip'"
echo "9. Make sure you have 7 GB of free disk space for the ROM download/unzip."
echo "10. Make sure the phone and PC can communicate: 'fastboot devices'"
    echo
echo "Once all these things have been done, you can continue. Else STOP NOW."

Think is I don't actually need a phone, I have a V20 and 40. But I do need internet for next month, for which I'll just get a simply prepaid for that month.
Motorola phones are perfect for you then, I use them exclusively when tethering to a routers. Always easy to root. No dun restrictions in apn settings. All carrier spyware is in the product partition, easy to suss out and disable. Can't beat it.
