Power button for 2 mins works fine :good:

This worked for me, but only with the USB cable provided with the Moto G.

I picked a new Moto G up from Phones4u yesterday, and it was dead (white notification light flashing in a dum-ta-dum-dum sequence) on plugging in, 0% charge. I tried the power button for two minutes (wow, that's a tedious 2 mins of my life gone!), but still wouldn't charge with a bunch of different chargers.

Out of desperation I tried the USB cable in the box, and after another tedious 2 minutes, a solid white light appeared and it started to charge up. I left it overnight and it was at 100% charge this morning. Booted it up, and nothing, nada, zilch - just a black screen after the intro animation.

I followed these steps on the Moto website to do a full reset & it now seems fine (this thing won't let me post the URL).

It now seems to be charging with a cranky old ZTE Blade charger - I don't see the white light I had yesterday but the percentage is going up, so I'm happyish. It doesn't inspire confidence though if these things come dead out of the box.

hi guys,

let me come to straight to the point...

bought motoG 16gb indian dual sim version from flipkart.

problem 1. the charger is not working. i tried the motoG charger with samsung galaxy s3 (indian version GT-I9300) and nokia lumia 520 (indian version). but the charger is not charging any phone.

then i tried the sammy galaxy s3 charger to charge motoG, its Working n charging properly.
i tried nokia lumia 520 charger to charge the motoG, and its charging.

so i guess the charger dat comes with motoG is Faulty. wat u think?

problem 2. whenever i plugged in the galaxy s3 or lumia 520 charger to charge motoG, the phone's touch screen dont work properly. means its becomes so NOT touch responsive. swipes not work properly on the screen.
did i make myself clear?

any of you faced it? plz let me know.

thx..

This is the first time this happened to me almost after 4 months of getting my Moto G. I tried the solutions everyone posted and the battery screen does appear with 0% symbol. But it stays there, after two hours it is still at 0%. I have the Indian version and I'm using the wall charger that came with it. Those that have faced this problem before, how long did it take for the battery to move from 0% to 1% ? Or am I doing something wrong ? Please help.

EDIT : Pressing VolDown + Power I can get to fastboot mode, after that when I select normal powerup, the LED blinks 3 times and the phone shuts off.

have you tryed:
-plug it in
-hold power button 2-3min
-leave it charging for an hour
-unplug it
-hold power button for 30seconds
-it should boot

i had the same problem that this solution did not work at start. and i was also able to get into recovery. the solution worked when the phone was so drained that it did not go into recovery.

I'm having a problem with my Moto G as well. Mine was only supplied with a USB cable, no outlet plug. The first time it wouldn't charge is when I updated my laptop to Windows 8. I don't know if this is coincidental or if its the problem. Since then, when I plug my phone in, my PC makes the connect and disconnect sound about 7-8 times, then the phone stays disconnected. During the period of the phone disconnecting and connecting, I do see the 0% screen. I left it for 24 hours and I'm trying it again now, still no luck. Holding down the power button does get the LED to flicker and the phone connects to the PC, but now the LED is off and nothing is happening.

Any suggestions?

Get an outlet charger.
If my battery dies I simply can't get the phone to work again by connecting it to my laptop, guess the 500mA of the USB port aren't enough for that.

Connect it to a charger and after pressing the power button for 2 minutes it will come to life ;)

THe 2 minute method worked for me as well (about 30mins ago :) ). I used the charger from my old HTC Desire - took a shot there, since I couldn't read the its specs, but I also read that the Moto G can be charged with pretty much every USB charger, because it limits the stronger ones to 1.5A. Not sure about that though.

Hi, my Moto G is giving me problems. It will not charge and I've tried several different chargers none of them will work. I have tried the power button for 2 mins method, didn't work, I've tried leaving it unplugged for 24 hours, didn't work. I've tried the power and volume down button and I've tried recovery and normal power up but my phone still won't go past the opening motorola screen and then the screen just goes black. My phone hasn't been working for about a month if not more at this stage and the shop I bought it from will not even consider repairing or replacing it as the screen is cracked. Does anyone have any idea as to what else I could try? Thanks in advance

If you get to the boot logo I assume you can also get to the fastboot.
Have you tried a factory reset through fastboot?
The only other option I can think of is to flash the stock ROM through fastboot. You can do that even with a locked bootloader and will fix any software problem that you may have.
Unfortunately if the phone got smashed to the floor maybe there's some hardware problem too...

But try to flash the stock ROM through fastboot, you can see info on that here in XDA.

I've tried several factory resets and they didn't work. I'm assuming it's not a hardware problem because the screen was broken for at least 3 weeks before the phone refused to turn on. Thanks for your advice to try to flash the stock ROM :)

Recently happened to me:
I woke up and the phone was on 94% charge. Had left the phone alone for 30 minutes and when I went back it wouldn't turn on. I had to leave, so I left it plugged in. When I came back, roughly 9 hours later, it was on the same state. I decided to disconnect it and reconnect it, and that's when the LED turned on (continuous, not blinking). I've tried the 2 minutes trick to no avail. I'm leaving it plugged for 2 hours.
Also, some minutes after connecting it, the LED turns off; but if you reconnect it, it comes back up again.
This phone is going to give me a heart attack!!!!

Edit: My phone doesn't show that battery on the screen, but maybe it's because I'm on a Custom ROM?

Update: It's been plugged in for several hours now, but nothing has happened. I will leave it charging overnight. If it doesn't work, I'll try using a 1.8A charger that came with my sister's LG G2. :fingers-crossed:
As I can see, the same things are happenning to other people. But the key difference is that mine doesn't turn on the screen no matter what, it only turns on the LED for some time when I connect it or press Volume Down+Power for 2 minutes.

Didn't work :(
Guess I'll try sending it in for repair, but I don't know if they'll accept it if it is rooted...

Were you able to fix it? If you were, how? Apparently I'm on the same page.

Wouldn't turn on this morning. Battery was at 50% and I put it on the charger over night. Woke up and couldn't turn it on. Tried the 2 minutes without plugging in the cable and it didn't work. Then plug it in and tried the two minutes power/vol down and saw a white light flash when I unplug the charger. Then it boots up and show 0%. Left it to charge for an hour and it is working fine now. This is a week old Cricket Moto 4G LTE. Any word from Motorola about possible cause?

It looks like the battery drain overnight but how is it possible since it was connected to the charger.
