Don't Downgrade fon 5.0 to 4.4.4

Hi guys My moto G didn't turned On !! last week. Because I was downgrading to 4.4.4 Asian version from 5.0 GPE version. I was successful downgrading to 4.4.2 but when I tried to upgraded 4.4.4 to upgrade 5.0.2... Finally I was not able to upgrade 5.0.2 because phone never booted after the installation of 4.4.4. And now my phone is at service centre they said the motherboard has to be changed.. However the phone is unlocked I keep my finger crossed if they come to know that phone was unlocked than I have to pay for the mother board and service process as well..
I thought i have to warn that don't try to downgrade..

Thank you..

So if you get that brick there's nothing you can do about it but replacing the motherboard? OMG....

update on moto g revival

if 15 second trick doesnt work
if 2 min trick doesn't work
if you leave the phone charging on 2 amp charger for a week and still the only thing that shows is the white led
if you are about to throw it out the trash because it's out of warranty and you have no idea if you'll ever recover your precious data:

you will need: preferably 1A charger, t4 screwdriver, volt meter, test hooks ( used for ic or multimeter tiny connections ) and extra usb cable.

  1. remove back cover, remove battery cover
  2. unplug battery connection from motherboard
  3. measure battery with volt meter [ found 2.19v ]
  4. hook up the extra usb charger cables black/red positive and negative appropriately to the battery's pos/neg terminals ( show's a plus sign on battery , use electronics style alligator clips/hook or a pin or hold it manually with hand.. those connections are tiny. )
  5. keep disconnecting the usb and measuring the voltage on battery every 5 mins. you don't want to over-do this.
  6. please don't over do this [ took 2.19v to 2.35 to 2.65 to 3.75 in about 30 mins. ]
  7. plug battery connector back on to motherboard.
  8. plug in microusb from charger to phone's charger port.
  9. 15 sec vol down and power trick should work now
  10. let full charge finish.

copy whatever you need incase you don't want to use the phone anymore.. but it should probably keep working for a while at this point.
don't let the battery die again ;)

Moto G No Power

I've got a Moto G which is refusing to show any signs of life apart from a white flashing LED now and again.

When plugged into computer (Windows 8.1) installs driver: QHSUSB_BULK
No custom firmware has been installed. This has all original software on the phone.

Have tried the following to repair it.
  • Hold Vol Down + Power. Tried 2min - 5min.
  • Leave phone for 24 hours, LED does not blink 3 times.
  • Hold power button for 2-5min
  • Remove battery.

This phone was working until the battery went dead, was left on charge overnight but no signs of life. Have tried 3 different chargers: 1.0Amp, 1.2Amp & 1.5Amp. Aswell as different USB cables.

Anyone got any more suggestions in how to get in to the phone? Need to get off the data (mainly pictures & contacts).

which are the positive and negative pins on the battery? the farthest ones? (there are four connectors)

what finally worked for me:
* charged all night with the new battery (notification led was lit on plug, off at the morning)
* unplugged it, power+vol_down for about 20 seconds, recovery appeared (joy!)
* powered off and plugged phone to the charge, it started charging from 0%

One of my workers dropped his Moto G some time ago. I got round to replacing the screen on Monday. Reassembled and screen flash up with 0% battery then went off.

I went through all the solid white light and flashing white light business. Nothing worked whatsoever including USB charging and 2.5A mains charging.

Today I stripped it down, disconnected the battery and then flashed the + and - terminals for about 2 minutes with a 5AMP desktop PSU. Plugged battery back in, connected USB and lo and behold - life. Battery showed 3%. Left it on charge around 5 hours and it's fine again.

I had exact same problem and I did the same to get it back to work. However, after this incident my battery life has decreased drastically. For instance my phone used to last all day long after an overnight charge. But now the battery goes from 100% to 0% by 8 hours, even if it is sleeping. For instance, yesterday I had charged the battery to 100% before going to bed, when I woke up in the morning it was down to 30%. I think some irreparable damage was done to the battery due to this incident.

Has your friend had this problem?

Get a 1.5 to 2 Amp charger, plug in and hold power for 2 minutes led should flash/come on ,when i saw the battery status screen (white background battery outline status in the centre) i let go of power.
It then came back on with the Motorola screen after 20/30 seconds then went to the charging screen.

hope that helps peeps :)

see chat log here:

Bastien: yes and also: press and hold POWER for a FULL 2 minutes while the phone is on charge.

Bastien: if the device is unresponsive and you want to try things such as a hard reset, the best thing to do is to leave the phone plugged in the wall charger for at least 2 hours (even if it shows no charge)
Bastien: When you do the 2 min thing, if you see the LED come on at any time, that is a very good sign
Richard Hughes: ok im trying now
Bastien: You should still hold for the FULL 2 min
Richard Hughes: ok
Richard Hughes: ohh flash
Richard Hughes: its on the light
Richard Hughes: now what
Richard Hughes: flashed a few times
Richard Hughes: yeahhhhhhh you genius
Richard Hughes: ohh no it went off gain
Bastien: no no, don' worry
Richard Hughes: battery charge came on
Bastien: leave it plugged
Bastien: it will reappear
Richard Hughes: then went off
Bastien: it will come back just leave it plugged for now.
Bastien: it might take 10 min to come back on but it will.
Richard Hughes: ok many thanks super star
Richard Hughes: im gona post over at XDA the 2 minute thing
Bastien: :)
Richard Hughes: mabe put that on your site man
Richard Hughes: that needs to be up on your site
Bastien: That's very true. I will make sure something gets done about this
Richard Hughes: cheers
Worked like a charm...!!!

HI everyone, i have just recently came across this thread and starting have a read and the hold power button trick seemed to work for me this morning after my phone went of and i couldnt get it back on, so today i got it back on doing that but now i am back to the same situation i had earlier where the phone wont power on at all, have tried to charge the phone then tried the power button hold while its chargings and still i get nothing. all i get on my phone i a red led light to the right hand side of the speaker on phone and it constantly blinks, i noticed earlier when i eventually got my phone on that the red light stopped before i got my phone on so i am guessing this red light is telling me there is an issue or something, and im assuming its just the battery but does anyone know for definte if i am right or if there is an other issue that may be casuing this. i am hopeful i will get my phone back on again and if i do i wondered if there is any setting or any changes i can make to my phone to help prevent this from happening again. i appreciate any help and thanks for your time

I've read the tips and tricks about using a 2A wall charger and holding the power button for two minutes, but I've recently broken my power button and was (successfully until Friday), booting with the charger in and volume down trick.

However as of Friday night that stopped working. Charging at the wall gives me the occasional moment of white LED on briefly, or for a bit, but how do I re-power on without a power button?

Thanks

My syster's moto g1 died and I tried all of this. This is the state I'm in now:
- I plug a Samsung 2A charger, the screen turns on and display battery at 0%
- Few seconds later I see the Moto logo (powered by android) which looks like the phone is booting and it even vibrates a little
- The phone restarts

It appears as though android can't boot somehow, but I can't get into fastboot mode (vol down+power), it's just bootlooping now. Ideas?
