A couple days ago I set out on a mission to use my GSM sim card with my phone.
I found this guide *I'm a new user so I can't post the link XD, it's called "How to: Unlock GSM for Moto X 1st and 2nd gen US Cellular"*
I followed it exactly and I was able to make calls and texts....However no data. Which annoyed me. So, me being me, I decided to keep going until it stopped working :crying: I tried flashing it, flashing just the modem, I even looked into NV values, bands and whatnot myself. Being a programmer and having worked with hardware many many times in the past, it wasn't too difficult to understand. However, try as I might, I cannot get it to work again. It detects the SIM card, I see the number, and it even says I have voicemails.....However I have no signal. I'm completely puzzled. As far as I can tell from typing *#*#4636#*#* it is using GSM. and I tried many different ones. Any help is greatly appreciated. As of now, I also tried flashing a different kernel and then just decided to flash CM13 thinking maybe there was a lock in the kernel.....No luck.

EDIT: I don't think it necessarily makes a difference....But it might. I took an OTA update after flashing my phone originally. Then I followed the guide and it worked. Now when I flash my phone I can flash everything except gpt.bin since it blocks me from downgrading that. And I have tried updating to the same update again....it makes no difference.

Hi there,

I will move your thread in the correct forum dedicated to Moto X Q&A for more relevant answers.

Good luck
Thanks. I was able to do research and was able to figure out why it wasn't working. I'm considering writing a thread with instructions on how to unlock the XT1055 for use with GSM bands since there doesn't seem to be much about it. I was originally trying to make it work with AT&T. but they discontinued GSM 850. My phone is supposed to be capable of WCDMA 1900 and so is AT&T, however, when I try this my phone enables and disables its radio repeatedly.....So, I'm not exactly sure what's going on with it.

I was told by a friend, that some of XT1055 are remarked 1056, 1060, and 1049. They can have GSM after a bit modding. But there are also TRUE XT1055, that can't have GSM at all, it's blocked completely.
There was described a dependance by serial number, but I forgot where I saw it, and can't find, sorry )

If you can share a guide to unlock 1055, pls, would be great to see. I have one non-GSM-achievable 1055 with "bad" serial number.

The xt1055 is capable of gsm. If you look at what bands are supported it does support a few gsm bands. I'm not sure about the remarked thing. But several sources say it is capable. And I did get it to work. AT&T just happened to discontinue the band I used for their network right after I got it to work. Purely bad luck. The xt1055 has limited gsm bands. Didn't stop me from trying unsupported bands still xD didn't work of course. Interestingly the xt1055 is also supposed to capable of wcdma. But I couldn't get that to work at all
