Keep in mind depending on the region you're flashing you may have a different number of sparse chunks (I think VZW has like 16, where as stock has like 13) You just enter the amount of sparse chunks you need to flash.
Hi, thank you for this scripts, i was searching for this, but unfortunately i have a problem with gpt.bin and it says that its a downgrade... i recently ran into problem with my moto z, when i woke up morning i saw that my phone is misbehaving and not functioning correctly , then i tried to run the recovery but it was corrupted and it didn't want to even open it, just showed me android laying with a red sign on it! it was so strange, after struggling with it i decided to unlock my phone and flashed twrp recovery, since i unlocked my phone, it wiped the entire phone along with OS. and i tried to install different roms (custom/stock) without any luck , it wont let me install stock roms with RSD or these commands. and for the custom roms it installed without problem but when it starts up its so messed up and can't do anything but only turning of the phone since nothing works...
these commands are my last shots, but without a proper gpt.bin i cant install anything correctly...

my phone model is: AP3775AE7X3. it's Malaysian version but i bought it in Russia...
i appreciate you if you can help me out.

Thanks in advance, Arman.

Hi I just found the firmware retus NPLS25.86-30-12/12.
Download and flash from here http://ftpeil.eil.com.br/vip/motorola/Firmwares/
Then you can do the adb sideload per below

BE WARNED YOU MUST DOWNLOAD THE CORRECT WHICH IS NPLS25.86-30-12/12

If you flash it then you will be able to ADB sideload the OTA from here https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=961840155545583001
to upgrade to 7.1.1 (thanks to @erfanoabdi for the link)

You're now on stock 7.1.1! :)
sorry, can you explain me how to ADB sideload the OTA?

you have to do this via recovery...

1. boot into bootloader
2. choose "Recovery Mode"
3. there should be displayed "no command" ... press power button, hold it short, press volume up, release both
4. select "apply update from adb"
5. connect to pc and execute "adb sideload update.zip" (where update.zip is your OTA file)

Hope this helps. Of course you need to ha adb/fastboot to do any of this

Sorry I'm pretty busy right now to make a detailed tutorial

My pleasure. Please press thanks if I helped
my original firmware is reteu (dual sim) , after unlocking bootloader and installing custom roms, it was impossible to flash official reteu nougat cause it's not uploaded to now
but retbr nougat stock and retus works great on my moto z just the little warning bug when powering the phone.
yesterday i installed retus stock rom to try the 7.1.1 update and it was successful (just waiting reteu bootloader for the warning msg)
thank you again.

Are you referring to the the unlocked bootloader warning on startup? If so then I can give you a logo.bin that will replace it

Curious as to why the latest firmware for the US Moto Z isn't listed on the front page?
86-17-3-8 which is the latest update.

(here was a link I am not yet allowed to repost)
Thank you so much for this link. It almost ended my journey to finally end up with a usable phone once again.

I tried to mod my moto z to have dual sim, followed some guides and flashes TWRP onto the recovery partition. I admit: Though an experienced IT guy, I really come short with my android/ flashing knowledge. Long story short: I destroyed my phone in the process. I ran into a boot loop, always booting into TWRP. I made a backup to the local storage and exported this in the meantime, but I wasn't able to restore it until yesterday (for everyone here: my system.image file was 5GB+ large, therefore I needed to format my sd card with NTFS which is recognized and usable by TWRP. Boy, did I bother to format the card to ext3 using mac and windows, it wasn't necessary at all :-/). I found out that the backup restored yielded the same error: only booting into TWRP/recovery, but not in the old system.

I tried some custom ROMs which I managed to flash and were running, but I really had some problems like broken WLAN, broken mobile connection, therefore that was no valid route to go for. Finally the phone works again for almost two days without issue.

Only today I discovered the big BUT: My IMEI is 0 now. It's not a big problem in Germany, our providers do not check for the IMEI. But other countries might.
Questions: Where is the IMEI located on the Moto Z? Can I reflash is somehow using adb and/or fastboot? I went back to stock recovery and do not have TWRP now (and since it is working now somehow, I am very reluctant to try everything else above again...)

Cheers for now!

Good question really. I unlocked the bootloader (I thought it was necessary, as I mentioned, I am quite new to Android and flashing ROMs in general). Is that the same? If not, is there a way to check if I am rooted indeed?

Is there any news on the Android 7.1.1 firmware for the Moto Z? I have just updated my phone to the latest build (NPL 26.118-20) (RETEU) and I would like to relock the bootloader. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
