As with most people i like to keep an eye on whats happeiing in the world of tech, the idea being that i will update to the latest best that i can, so for my next phone i have these specifications in mind:

1: Water resistant - my defy has been dropped in puddles, in the sea ( and fetched out from the bottom - only a metre or so deep) as well as a few other scrapes, whats the point in a mobile device if it cant stand up to lifes knocks and bumps, theres plenty of horro stories out there of people suffring water damage for using their phones outside in the rain/in moist environments and so on.

2: User replacable battery - I can spend some time away from power, having a spare battery ready to pop in and go is extremly useful, there are on the go chargers, and i do use them for extended periods away, however the phone+spare battery comes with me, and the on the go charger charges another battery up ( in an external charger) back at base

3: SD card, im currently running out of space on a 32GB card, phones with no removable sotrage often cost much much more per GB extra than the comparable cost with a SD card, also I like the flexibility that removable storage offers.

So whats out there???

Xperia Acro - not available in the UK, so thats that out
Xperia Go, no real improvement over the defy
Xperia Z - no removable battery, expensive, and i dont buy this stamina stuff
Galxy Xcover - old no signifficant improvement
Xcover 2 - not too sure on what to make of it, as far as design goes its not a patch on the defy, as it appears to be quite bulky/chunky ive not seen it in the flesh yet, so at the moment the jurys out ( although im not that convinced)

Xphone - rumour has it that its waterproof (IP57), although some reports are stating because of this ti will have few ports - n SD card, and no removable battery, and at the moment its still a good way off.

So that leaves the Defy, water resistant, removable battery, SD card, just aging a bit

i love my defy.. the repairability level of this phone is great. i've opened mine a couple of times to remove big blue blots on my LCD that were not resolve using the freezer method. every time i get some LCD issues after dropping it i just put it inside the freezer with a watertight container and dead pixels are gone.
i still can't find a replacement for my defy..

Why on earth Motorola doesn't continue to produce Defy series, to launch an improved Defy with dual core Krait, 1 Gig Ram, 8 Gig internal storage, micro SD support, 4.3 inch display SAMOLED or IPS with an over 250 dps resolution, 3300 mAh and no hardware buttons?
Defy was a quite succesfull phone. So I expect the next Defy update to be the same. About the price, I think a 400€ launch price is quite resonable. And there are a lot of Defy fans.

I wanted to buy an Acro S few months ago but I've seen an Xperia S lagging and the software support from Sony is still bad for old phones. So I changed my mind. Now I own an Razr HD with my Defy+ too (was a Defy owner too) and I must recognize I'm still waiting for something great from Moto.

I hope Phone X will make me put my money down.

My Defy has been to hell and back to earth several times now. So far everything working apart from the capacitive buttons(Home & Search) no longer lid. Intended to continue use until it explode(hopefully not) someday.

I suppose everything is now under scrutiny from Google and perhaps they aren't interested in tougher phones, I mean look at the Nexus 4 and it's glass front and back as an example....a great phone but seems very fragile, espeically compared to a Defy.

I also agree that there probably is a sufficient market for a Defy v3 with better cpu, memory, big battery, tougher glass and case etc and I bet many of us Defy owners would buy one now.

My hope would be that it would have a more rugged case, perhaps more rubbery edges, and a tougher screen and of course not suffer from random reboots which seems to plague many users!
