Hello,

My wife and I recently purchased Motorola Edge 20 Pro's on AliExpress from China and I am debating unlocking the bootloader and installing a Global Rom. From my understanding I will need to keep the bootloader unlocked as locking it will brick my phone and thus Google Pay and other apps that rely on SafetyNet assestation will not work.

The alternative is keeping the Chinese Rom with a locked bootloader and installing Google Play Services apk. I guess my only concern with that is Chinese spyware that might be a part of the Chinese Rom and whether or not I'd be able to remove all of it with maintaining a locked bootloader. What are your thoughts on this?

The good news is if I have a Chinese Rom with locked bootloader I can still have English set as my language.

Thank You

It's up to you to decide. Personally, I do not like the Chinese shell, lack of localization that I need and much more. That's why I made my own custom one, which I am very happy about. I'm happy with it.
You have to ask yourself why you need to unlock the bootloader and all the subsequent operations associated with it.
For normal operation of Google services you need to remove the Chinese applications.
Links with answers to your questions are on the 4PDA forum. I think with the translator you can get the information you need.
