Motorola .mbn files?

Does anyone know how to extract the .mbn files- usually contained within the .sbf files on older Motorola firmware? I believe you can do it using Cygwin and unyaffsmbn but I haven't figured out how yet. Is there any documentation or threads on how to extract these files or the commands for unyaffsmbn? I haven't been able to find anything on this. If anyone can help me please let me know.... Thanks.
