Fixing Services Errors

Hi everybody. Wanted to offer some guidance on how to stop the endless cycle of "{ insert google app here} has stopped" errors that have arisen from the latest google play servies update.

Here is what I did to regain ALMOST all functionality. While this shouldnt erase all your data, if there is anything you care about, be sure to back it up first. You'll need to be rooted, and have a custom recovery.

Step 1: Download the GAPPS package from the xda 4.4.4 OMNI thread relavent to your model.

Step 2: Go into settings, into wifi, and "forget" all nearby networks, so that the tablet cannot connect to the internet on reboot.

Step 3: Boot into custom recovery. [If you don't have one, I am not going to outline how to install one here.]

Step 4: Clear cache and Dalvik. Install the Gapps package you just downloaded. Clear cache and Dalvik again, just to be sure.

Step 5: Reboot. Wait for process to finish. You should now have a bunch of older gapps that at least work together. But we can't stop here or things will update, and other things won't work.

Step 6: Without connecting to the internet, go into google play store and disable auto updating apps. Then connect to the internet and install the xposed framework.

Step 7: Install two things. One, the xposed module "this app will run without google play servives" ( Google the portion in quotes... I'm not allowed to post links yet ) to stop non google apps from saying "this app requires updating google play services". And then install the "disable services" app from the play store. Open the disable services app, go to system app tab, then to google play, then disable "checkWIFIthenUpdate"

Step 8: You should now be able to use the basic gapps, but cannot install newer ones. This is because they will check for the latest play services on their own, haven't found a way around it. Otherwise you can install and update other apps, and although there has been some minor glitches, it seems to have stopped throwing the "{app} has stopped" errors.

Hope this helps someone.

Cheers.

I had a one-on-one chat with Google support. Since I am running a rooted Moto Xoom (Omni 4.4.4), the only advice Google one-on-one support could provide was to unroot and revert back to Stock (which is 4.1.2. on the Xoom) and/or contact Motorola for support. Google seems to be unwilling to investigate fixes unless folks that are running UNROOTED Tegra2 Non-Neon devices are also experiencing the same issue.

So, if you are running a non-rooted Tegra2 device and are having this issue, please contact Google one-on-one support and let them know via https://support.google.com/googleplay/answer/6179357?hl=en#contact=1

EDIT: It looks like the issue is impacting stock Asus Transformer TF101 which is also a Tegra2 Non-Neon device. Hopefully a bunch of Asus owners report the issue to Google, along with other impacted stock Tegra 2 owners.

hi,

i have 2 motorola xoom, wingray and everest. 2 xoom didn't work at he same time.

i solved this problem for the moment.

The problem is in services of google, launcher, Maps 9.45 and play store.

You need a ROM with ROOT.
GAPPS "before 01/01/2017"
https://github.com/opengapps/arm/releases/download/20161230/open_gapps-arm-4.4-nano-20161230.zip
Titanium Backup and Maps APK.

I flashed EOS ROM and the OPENGAPPS NANO in the EVEREST.

Don't turn on wifi. After install, install titanium backup and go to > Menu > Market > Delete links market.

Menu > Market > Market Doctor.

Select all except:

Services of google play
Play Store
Google services framework

When finish, go to copy/Restore > select launcher3, push and separate from the market.

Install Maps 9.46.

Well done! Xoom runs with all services and ok!:laugh:

After 2 days return problem.

i try again another method and after 3 days, works well.

I install Omniroom on the Everest & Wingray.

GAPPS "before 01/01/2017"
https://github.com/opengapps/arm/releases/download/20161230/open_gapps-arm-4.4-nano-20161230.zip

Maps 9.46.2 http://pollux.androidapksfree.com/zdata/6b1c90d98d27d36f13bbce3194c2a606/com.google.android.apps.maps_v9.46.2-946200020_Android-4.3.apk

Other Google APP works fine but maps don't work if you download from the market. I don't know the reason. I install the apk from the link and no problem.

When the service errors appears, go to the settings > Aplications > All > Goggle play services and uninstall updates. All apps works, and after 3 days no update again.

Disable automatic updates on google play.

:)

Hi everyone!
I was running CyanogenMod 10.x on my Xoom (604), it was running flawlessly, until January's end, then, like everyone here, all of my GApps started to crash over and over.
I decided to take my Xoom back to stock ROM and unrooted, but, after the last JB update (4.1.2 i think), all of GApps and sync started to crash again, but now, without any error messages: I opened a GApp, like youtube, and the logo appears, but after 3 seconds, it crashes and there's no error message at all.
Then i started do make some observations and run some tests. For first, I turned off my internet connection. Without connection, all of GApps open, but it stops at the main window, asking for some connection, but it doesn't crashs like when it's connected.
Then, I reflashed the ROM and started to update the system slowly, step by step and app by app, manually, to see what's causing the issue.
I find out that when we update Android up to 4.0.1 version, the system keeps all GApps stable (I think because in this version off Google Play Services offers support to Tegra devices). Now i'm using my xoom stock running on Android 4.0.1 all working well (just don't know when it's going to crash again).
If anyone try to do this, give some feedback here, maybe it's a temporary solution.

I am on CM11 BigPart. When the google services error appeared I re-flashed the ROM without GAPPS after wiping storage and data. I am using Fdroid App Delivery platform instead of Google Play. From FDroid I installed Yalp store which allows to install Google Play apps and update them. So far it is working well but WARNING some apps can not be installed or don't run.
Google effectively killed all remaining Xooms. WTF.

I almost dare not say it, but I have been without the services of Play for 24 hours.
Does anyone else do the same?

Is it possible that Google has pitied us?

I am sure that you have already figured it out but simply install the most recent google play services beta (10.5.42) from apkmirror.com and problem solved

Same issue for me and I'm running the device bone stock with only minimal updates and the bare minimum of apps. Due to the frequency of the crashes I have been using it less and less which is difficult because I enjoy this device very much. Glad to find this thread and see that I am not experiencing some sort of unheard of glitch. I'm going to try the APK that Chronosus recommended. Keep the conversation going folks. I don't think it's time to retire this wonderful device yet.

Thank you, thank you very much for your help that has solved the problem with which I had been fighting for a long time.
I did not know that Google had already updated Play. I installed it following your advice and everything perfect.

Thanks again. A big greeting for you.

Worked for me too. Thank you.
On a Verizon Xoom 4G running stock Jelly Bean (4.1.2), I was able to successfully load the gapps beta and the gapps popups disappeared. Now GMAIL works. Unfortunately the system is still unbearably slow. Hangouts take forever to load. Maps does not work at all (it loads and crashes before showing anything). Youtube has severe buffering issues and randomly crashes. Play Music works the best out of all the Google base apps but even it is pokey. Pandora works but is either slow or unresponsive. Same thing with TED.

This is so disappointing as I still have fresh memories of this device being very speedy and responsive. It served my needs well and I have multiple accessories for it (Otterbox case, HD docks, standard docks, mobile power supplies, RAM mount, etc). What I cannot understand is they still sell phones out there with dual core 1 GHZ / 1 GB of ram and they seem to be able to at least run KitKat and some run Lollipop. I realize 64 bit is the new norm but not all the new devices are 64 bit. This has tought me a valuable lesson (I hope I remember) to not get too vested in any tech platform. All it takes is one update and your $1,000 plus investment is down the crapper............................

When did you spend the $1000+? 5 years ago?

Cumulative investment since purchasing new (refurbished) in 2011. I've added accessories over time as I could fund. You have to remember this was one of the first Android tablets so it was relatively expensive at the time.

I am very much aware of the age of the device. I still cannot fathom a reason why it cannot still function as a basic tablet even 6 years later. Still listed on Google's supported device list (at least it was last night 3-19-17).
It's not like it has a sub gig processor and 512MB of RAM. Even a decade later you can boot up an old Pentium PC running XP and it can function to write a document, check email and play music.

While the Xoom may be listed on "Google's supported device list" it device hasn't been updated officially in years, it's last official update (US) being Jelly Bean (or was it ICS?). I don't even believe you can find the stock factory images any longer since Motorola was sold. That's hardly what I would consider supported.

I think that that list really shows, is that the last updated version of Android to arrive on the Xoom hasn't officially had its support pulled, that doesn't really mean the device itself is supported.
