Moving from a Android device to HTC Titan?

i was thinkin about titan for about a month now... i end up with the gs2 and i don't have regrets on it... i came from ip4 but got bored to it and decided to upgrade to have faster web page loads.. the gs2 delivered. it's been 1 week now and i'm still thinkin about the titan, i almost pull the trigger on it but upon browsing forums there lot of issues with the titan mainly with the call quality.. my question is should i wait for a month or few months before i switch?

i got a chance to test a WP 7.0 LG but i felt that something was lacking (i don't know what).. i hope it won't happen when i switch to titan.
i felt that the android was just too complicated to me because i wasn't really an APPS guy and just get the apps that are essential to me (sms tones and some), and wanted things to be more simpler and i'm a mac user so the android phone was really hard to use on a mac.. i hope the WP titan can deliver to this and satisfy me..

i only use my phone for some web browsing, check facebook sometimes and email when necessary, and texting was my only heavy usage though not that heavy about 30-40sms a day.. and lastly.. the BATTERY! on my gs2 it lasts almost 2 days if used lightly.. how about the titan...

your comments and advises will be very much appreciated thank you!

Just got my Titan today. I'm liking it, but I am torn as to whether I will use it as my primary (work/personal) and give up my Motorola Atrix. Both have pluses that I really like, and both have negatives that I'm torn over...

Motorola Atrix:
Pros:

  • fastest android phone I've ever used
open source gives me unlimited apps
convenience, as I've already bought a kick-a$$ holder (Seidio with belt clip)
Bought the Atrix dock/computer for $50 (still on back order from THAT company)
just used to the Android OS

Cons:

  • too open source. apps aren't totally tested
I'm a tech hound and love the "new" items
screen is just too small for things I enjoy.. web browsing. games... Netflix...

HTC Titan

Pros:

  • Only cost me $.01!!!!
    Beautful phone! Fast!
Buttery smooth OS! Windows Phone 7.5 (Mango) is just a superb OS
Screen size rivals that of my Dell Streak (My favorite phone ever!)
    Camera rocks!
    Form Factor Rocks!

Cons:

  • Apps are limited
As robust as the OS is, there are still things I like to do it cannot do efficiently, or I just haven't learned how to do them yet...
no Seidio case with belt clip available for the phone.

Bought one for my wife as well. She specifically told me NOT to buy her another phone, but FFS... it was only a penny, and it's significantly better than her Samsung Focus.

I'll probably switch back and forth between phones, as my mood hits me. :)

For "drupad2drupad" - It is extremely rare that I say this; but you're dead on and 100% right! I like to think I've done my homework on buying my next device, the HTC Titan (Eternity)...I thought about a dual core but for the moment single cores are holding their own and faster with the hardware in these devices and the Titan booted 4 times faster than the Thunderbolt and I completely understand the popularity of Android and iOS but I don't want anybody to be offended when I say this; I want a device that is an extension of my personal computer and a device I don't have to buy with every new...faster...more this, more that device that is made available to us all, oh, say, everyday and my device becomes an instant relic! If y'all can afford the next great really, really cool smart phone, God bless ya, but some of us prefer two years before we have to make this decision again, and a true story; my new device is more powerful than my home PC! I need a big screen because I'm blind; I have a 46 inch HDTV for football, not a subscription and a 4 inch screen and my magnifying glass in the other room. This damn device for all its pros and cons isn't a toy, it's my communication lifeline; so congratulations Android; y'all passed the half-million apps; I need none of them...zero; what I need is the common sense to be able to type a URL, save it as a favorite/bookmark and it's all good in my universe; do I need an app to logon to my bank account; my newspaper, Angry Birds...no; a favorite will suffice. A little common sense goes a long way...a damn good, long ways.

For "rvbarton" - You're absolutely right too! I love my Rhodium and that keyboard and I have mine currently dual booting both WinMo 6.5 (NRGZ28's July 4 EnergyROM) and XDAndroid's Froyo 7.1 and I'm keeping it...it doubles for my GPS...CoPilot Live 8. I'm awaiting in the mail my Titan from Amazon Wireless. Having a Rhodium for a good backup in my world isn't a bad thing...I really repected your point of view despite the two of us using different devices, but I suppose when you think about it, that's why there are how many different model of devices out there and yet, still to come?

I'm kind of torn...I've had an iPod touch for 2 years now, and I just got the HTC Vivid (I'm even writing this reply on it), but I loved the Titan. I just got used to HTC Trace (like Swype) Sense UI, widgets, Android as a whole, but WP7 felt SO nice and smooth. The biggest thing is those widgets though...I kind of need the Mobile Networks, Wi-Fi, and brightness settings to be easy access...oh and the Shopkick app, I get like $20 a month from that. But even literally now there are jittery UI elements (copy/paste/select window movements) that have no need to be with my dual core 1.2 GHz processor...

I may get the Titan just because Shopkick is available on my iPod and I can use that, but man I want a WP7 phone now...

K, I think I'll be alright without the super fast widgets, but now it's Titan and iPod touch, or just my Android phone, because I really want Shopkick. Plus I'm a little spoiled with high res on this Vivid and my 4th gen iPod, which makes the Titan hard to choose. Also is there location spoofing software on WP7?

EDIT:
Hopeles

for the settings, hold the windows key and say, open settings, choose brightness, wifi, whatever. how much easer can it be?
It could be, you know, just push a button to turn on or off Wi-Fi...

There's an app that puts the wifi/bluetooth/airplane mode in to live tiles so you can add them to the home screen and change the them without going in to the settings.

I don't know about you but I had an iPhone 4 for around 1.5 years and I have no problem whatsoever using Titan because only browsing pages with small texts(maxed out) shows jagged pixels, in which I either zoom in or work in landscape.
I'm really enjoying the 4.7" screen and can't stand the iPhone's screen now ! :D

I am suprised no one has mentioned this.

While the lack of an SD card can be an issue (extra features are always welcome), the fact is most of the people who expand thier SD card do it for thier music. There's a simple resolution. One that enables a whole new section to the phone, and one ups anything out there.

It's called Zune! There's no need to waste your storage on music. Simply download the music you like and listen to often, the other stuff you can just stream off zune when you feel like it. It's all seemless and for 9 bucks a month, it's the Netflix of music. I keep roughly 200 songs on my phone, I don't manage my library a whole lot, and when I do, Zune makes it easy.

16GB is plenty with a Zune account.

BTW, I gave 2 android users and 3 iphone users a demo of my phone today. 4/5 said thier next phone will be a Windows Phone, the one who didn't had just bought an iPhone 4S and felt salty, he didn't break it out even once as I was showing everything off. He did however play with my Titan in the corner thinking we didn't notice for a good 30 mins.

You won't regret it.

Like it... I want to love it.

The HTC Titan is thee most gorgeous device that I have ever owned. The screen size makes people look in awe. Wp7 is thee most fluid and smooth OS there is... yes even smoother than iOS 5. The app UI is the "prettiest" out of a the OS's (MetroTube, Wp7 news, Prime TV, etc.). With that being said... my old Nexus S still gets waaay more use. I still feel like WP7 is missing way too many features that I like.

-No Universal search: I should be able to press the search button, and search the web, apps, contacts, etc. When i wanna call someone, there is just too many extra steps.

- No alternate keyboard: The WP7 keyboard is "OK". Why won't they let us change it? Is it because of security issues? I don't care. It should be my decision. On my Nexus I use SWYPE when typing with onefinger, and Swiftkey when typing with 2 fingers.

- No alternate browser: IE just plain sucks next to my Nexus S webkit browser. Don't believe me? Go to m.twitter.com or m.facebook.com from an Android browser and you will see a BIG difference. Why doesn't Microsoft allow any worthy alternatives? Are they trying to build a walled garden like that fruit logo?

-No unified notification: Once my toast notifications disappear where does it go? A number on a Live Tile? Nah. I'd rather have ONE place where I can check ALL of my notifications... and then open the app from there. Or Microsoft could at least release api's for a 3rd party developer to make one.

-No external storage/Zune: The biggest reason that I will NEVER own an iPhone because I hate depending on other software (iTunes) to sync music/pics/videos/. I like to pull music off of my brother's laptop... and no he doesn't wanna download zune. I also like to pull movies off of my playstation 3. Copy and paste on my Nexus S... Simple.

-Lack of Apps: My biggest gripe is the lack of apps. Yes I know that WP7 is still in it's infant state, and it got to 45,000 apps the fastest, but I don't want to wait months to a year for developers to recognize the hidden gem that is WP7. As a 27 year old male, I have many friends on Voxer, Path, Google+, etc apps. That has me constantly going back to my Nexus.

With that said, WP7 is easily the most beautiful (Besides those god-awful ugly tiles), smoothest, and might be the best OS a year from now. I like the Titan, but I should have got the SG2 Skyrocket.

There are plenty of smart dial apps for searching before calling.
Swipe to app list and you can search apps
There is dedicated bing search soft-key that will let you search the web.
I know it's not universal search but honestly when do you look for a contact in an app list? or look for a website in your app list?

Probably the first person to say WP7 keyboard is OK. Most reviews suggest it's the most accurate thing on the face of the earth when it comes to soft-keyboard. Obviously a choice would be good and yes SWYPE - definitely a good addition to WP

- No alternate browser: IE just plain sucks next to my Nexus S webkit browser. Don't believe me? Go to m.twitter.com or m.facebook.com from an Android browser and you will see a BIG difference. There are a few tweaked IE9 browsers floating in the market. See if they sound worth. One thing I like about IE9 is the way it renders the pages. I've tried Opera, Dolphin and host browser on my Android and inspite of having AMOLED screen on android, I din't find the browsing so pleasant. May be a personal choice?

-No unified notification: Once my toast notifications disappear where does it go? A number on a Live Tile? Nah. I'd rather have ONE place where I can check ALL of my notifications... and then open the app from there. Or Microsoft could at least release api's for a 3rd party developer to make one.
I think it's one of the requested end user feature. You could vote for it! But right now it seems to be not getting so many votes because plenty of us were tired of the same notification with android and iphone and BB. This new way of notifying is much better as there isn't always going to be little icon staring at you on top of the status bar. It annoyed the crap out of me. If you are using the phone, something imp is notified, you can tap to go there and do whatever you want, or ignore it till you go back to home screen - they introduced this as a "feature" during initial release. I think they call it non-intrusive toasts.

Simple.
This definitely looks like the way forward. I can't agree more on this. Many many users have mentioned this not just with Titan but any WP. But the way iPhone users just got used to it, probably we will adapt to it. I am still trying to find out what is the 'good' thing about this and why don't iPhone users kick crap out of Apple for letting them suffer for 4 years!

I think apps are like kicking MS's balls! You are so right with this observation. I noticed lack of apps as the first thing. Not because I am too app-centric but because I had read so much about the lack of apps before I bought the phone. However, two days of playing with market and I've got all the apps I ever used on my android. Only apps I miss are google+, smsbackup+. - but again there are user made tools in WP section of this forum which serve the purpose and you don't need to unlock the phone for it either. That reminds me, "GOOGLE+ is like gym of social networking. Everyone signed up for it, but no one visits it now" ;)

With that said, WP7 is easily the most beautiful (Besides those god-awful ugly tiles), smoothest, and might be the best OS a year from now. I like the Titan, but I should have got the SG2 Skyrocket.
I am surprised you find tiles ugly! Not the live tiles I hope. They are constant stream of information for me. Like the flight app's tile, my people's tile, my ME tile, my emails tile (linked personal emails), my outlook tile (work email), my weather tile, my news tile, my calender live tile - all that keeps changing constantly and without opening any app I get to know everything 'at a glance' as they say - I think that's cool! - but again personal choice. I do agree certain developers are lazy ass not updating their live tiles to Mango. But Mango tiles are awesome for a change :)
I just added them in blue under your points, thought it would be easier ;)

No Universal Search: Yea but I would still like to just hit the search button while on the homescreen and search for ANYTHING. I loved this about WebOS... and later on Android when they stole it. It just makes sense and is a whole lot easier. The quick dial app i use "True Dialer" is not a good replacement app. I still have to keep my "Phone" tile right next to it. Recent calls wont show up in my call history unless their in my address book first!

No alternate browser: Have u seen any of the websites optimized for HTML5? They look TERRIBLE on IE. Facebook and Twitter are perfect examples.

No Unified Notifications: Notifications at the top of the screen never annoyed me. If so, then they should just give you the OPTION to turn it off. Problem soolved. Everyone is HAPPY.

Lack of Apps: I have 1,000 people on my G+ and I love it. The WP7 alternative is just terrible.

WP7... I love it and hate it at the SAME time.

No universal search -

EVERYONE FORGETS VOICE!!!! - Hold the voice key (aka windows)
For the web say whatever like "how much wood could a wood chuck chuck"
For the weather say what your looking for. "Weather in Sanfransico?" just like the iphone commercial
For Maps say the address (it will bing search and put the map at the top) Press the map and you have local scout and directions
For contact says "Call contact name" or "Text Contact name"

What more do you want?

That works sooooo perfectly for me now!
Only thing is: Apps! It most of the time won't recognise my apps. How do you say Facebook? Face..book? Facebook? Facebuk? Face...book? facebook? How? Tried so many accents, so many ways, nothing! However it does everything to do with BING, calls and texts - so perfectly well! I wish next update brings the features from voice commands in winmo 6.5 where we were able to even arrange appointments in outlook calenders using voice command.

What I've realised is - TellMe needs training like Siri. Once you know what it gets and what not, it works fluidly. But I think these days even human beings dont understand different accents, so I won't blame a mere software for it!

Oh and for those that complain about the dialpad not showing immediately. (instead recent calls)

Press and hold windows key for voice, say call 5709322322 or whatever number (i just made the number up) and it will call it.

And to think, we had all this before Siri, MS really needs to tell us more things we can do with Tell me.

For apps, make sure you say open before the app name and also wait for the mic level to come up (sometimes i say it to fast)

Also i find it works better if i am not really close to the phone (like have it to my ear) and it works better if i talk naturally as opposed to try to announiate it... except my hometown. Williamsport comes up as waynesboro unless i say WilliamSPort. (i have to make sure it catches the SP part.

Today i used local scout to find a new pizza joint. I just said, Long Island Pizza. (note you don't have to say find), local scout came right up after a 2 second web search. When i click on it, i get directions, phone number (which calls if you press it) and hours they are open. How sweet is that?
