remove the shell of the phone, and at the top put a small piece of Electrical tape over the top MIC and the put the Phone shell back on.

you be amazed the difference in call quailty
Thank you so much for this tip! I had very very high hopes that it would work, but unfortunately I saw zero difference. I left myself two messages to compare the difference before and after applying the electrical tape:

Before Tape

After Tape

From what I can tell, they're equally horrid.

Sorry to be a party popper here guys, but we are going off topic. I started this thread to localise android/titan questions. If you think a Q&A thread is required, i can start one. Or if one of you Titan veterans want to make a Thread, answering some basic noob questions, and willing to update it. Then i will sticky it.

But otherwise, lets keep it on topic.

Peace!

I use both Android and WP 7

I own the HTC Titan, and a Samsung Droid Charge.

Both android and WP 7 are great operating systems. Here's how I see "which is better." Android, yes it runs slower than WP 7. Even using a custom ROM on android phones doesn't make it as fast as the WP 7 OS is. However, Android does have more support behind it, but that is just because it is coming out from being "New". Microsoft just needs to push dev's to build more on the WP 7. Apps from top dev's on the WP 7 marketplace are extremely nice. The facebook app on the WP 7 is by far my favorite one. It is different from the Android and iOS versions. The WP 7 has a lot of potential behind it.

The only reason I use my Samsung Droid Charge is when I am in a 4g LTE area (when LTE is more widespread, im sure they'll create a WP that supports 4g LTE), for the thrill of trying custom ROMS when I'm bored, and because of the app market.

The WP 7 I know you can unlock the bootloaders in some of them and use custom roms, but I feel no need to do that to WP 7 phones, just because it runs so flawlessly already.

But yeah, I use my HTC Titan more than my Samsung Droid Charge.

And if you're wondering why I have two separate network providers it is because they are ANR and Company lines.

I am seriously thinking about making the jump from android. Yesterday I walked into a phone shop where there was a working windows phone on display. (Nokia, but I'm interested in the Titan)

As I began fiddling with the phone one of the salesman came up to me. He tried his best to deter me from ever thinking about buying a windows phone, the majority of phones in the shop were android, and the Nokia was the only windows phone they had.

When I asked him why I should'nt go for a wp he tried to show me on the working model, thinking I would fall for his negative bias. I couldn't believe how slick and intuitive the wp os is! His negative pitch was having an opposite effect on me!

I'm hoping that more well designed apps appear in the market before I finally make my mind up in July.

I'm watching carefully, but with great interest.

I switched from Android just week ago and I don't regret it at all. All the programs I have used in android, I have also in Titan except offline navigation and 3G Watchdog, now I have no clue how much data my titan consumes.

But... I have lots of features, that I didn't have on android: full office suite, sharepoint, xbox.

Yea, most people have never used a windows phone, seen one being used or probably even know anyone who owns one. I went from an iphone 3g, 3gs (Both jail broke), Aria, Captivate (Galaxy S), Atrix, Play, Quantum, Focus Flash, Titan (Last 4 in the last 6 months or so). I've overclocked, custom romed all my Android phones and they never even came close to how smooth/fluid/fast any WP I've ever used. I even showed a friend who works for AT&T (Owns an iphone) my Titan and he's like "Holy crap man this thing is sweet" (Never used a WP phone before). I think even Apple got in trouble a while back because in their commercials they were editing the speed of how fast the apps opened. One thing I also noticed with Android phones is they get WAY slower the longer you use them, but with WP it could careless it seems. Honestly I really love how WP7 integrates a TON of stuff into the OS so it doesn't feel like you're opening a app to do everything. So like I said most people have never touched a WP7 phone and iphone/Android are king so WP7 must be horrible but it's totally reverse. It's a nice middle ground for customization also (You can customize an iphone?) and when Apollo drops in the fall I'm thinking they will add a TON of customization. Just my .02 ;)

Titan ?

I loved my HD2 and tried so many ROMs and builds quite a few differing Android builds but just one W7 ROM and I was buying the Titan 3 weeks later. All the technical reasons have already been covered I just want to add to those already saying 'it is just so good so smooth to use'
Thanks for all the hard work everyone at xda

Maybe someone should conclude that it is not available for the HTC Titan to run Android? The only thing I see here in this topic is ppl telling how great Windows Phone is instead of giving any ideas.

The whole point of this thread is to say how easy it is to leave Android and get a Titan. How easy and pleasant we found to use Titan. or to say how anyone regrets coming from Android to Titan. It's for those on Android deciding to jump the ship. This thread wasn't created in order to say if we can run Android on Titan. That will be murderous. If anyone wants Android on HTC Titan it already is present - buy HTC Sensation XL - Exactly the same phone running Android.

Yes, the subject is confusing. It can either mean "Is it possible to port Android to Titan?" or "Should I go from Android to Titan"?

To answer the second question, I regret getting the Titan. It is a nice, thin device, with a big screen (but with a little low ppi).

But the reason I am at XDA-dev forum is because I like a smartphone that I can customize, with setting that I can alter, and make the phone fit my needs in every situation. With an Android device there is almost no limits what you can change in the phones behaviour.

As an combined business/private smartphone my Android phone is priceless. With things like an private sms and email inbox, I can securely let my friends play with my phone without the risk that they find confidential information. Or at work on the go I can give the phone to a colleague and show documents, maps and so on without the risk that my girlfriends sends an sms that I dont want him to see.

Back to the Titan, after two months of use I am still impressed with the speed in the UI, and some other things that are well designed. But otherwise it just keeps dissapointing me. Some really basic smartphone functions are missing in WP. And you cant alter alter almost anything in the UI och how the phone behaves. It is way to unflexible and locked to be useful for me. In every situation where Android has a Settings or Advanced button, WP has... nothing.

And then I keep having big problems with both WiFi and GSM/3G reception, which I think is the cause to why people complains that it sounds like that I am talking in a can.

If I never had used Android I would probably liked WP a lot more. But after using Android for over a year, it really sets the bar of what you can expect of an smartphone in terms of features and customization possibilities.

My little sister really likes WP, because it has Xbox Live and Facebook integration.

But I didnt buy an expensive high end smartphone to use it as a toy. Thats my thoughts.

And yes, the Titan is now holding papers on my desk while I am using a Motorola Defy, a low end device compared to the Titan but with one big diffrence, Android.

Well here is my moving from Android to Titan opinion:
Pros:
- Exterior: the phone looks amazing, just beautiful. I even like it more than the HTC One X looks.
- This phone is really reliable, I never have to worry when Im away from home that it would get stuck in a bootloop.
- I don't need to flash my phone every 1-3 weeks.
- It is very fast
- The battery lasts in my opinion pretty long

Cons:
- there are small things that irritate me like that Im unable to disable screen rotation.
- The lack of some big apps
- the big apps that are available are pretty bad in my opinion and never get an update
- I can't customize my phone how I would like, so it isn't really 'a part of me'

I love my Titan , but I also miss Android very much.

WP7 - great! TITAN - not so

Well, I switched to WP7 when it first became available to me in Jan 2011 and have not looked back.

I joined this site a few years back when I had my HTC HD with the old WinMo on it and loved to play with it, change roms as I please, moved to HD2 (the greatest phone by the way) and eventually installed Android on it. I loved those two phones precisely because they gave me the opportunity to change ROMs on them as I please, learn different OS', etc. I actually spent waaaaay too much time customizing my phone (became an addict to ROM switching) that I did not want to admit to myself (and especially to others, like iPhone owners) that most of the time my phone did not work well; either the phone calls were getting cut off, blutooth did not work, it would randomly freeze on a daily basis, so much so that I almost wore my back cover out from taking out the battery so often

When WP7 became available I tested it instantly fell in love with it. (I decided to go legit so I purchased HD7 and eventually the Titan.) I actually welcomed the fact that it was so closed and not customizable and that it WORKED, it did not freeze or die on me at crucial moments. After all, these devices serve to get us in touch with people either thru live phone calls, texting, emails, Skype, etc. I was glad I had an OS which was extremely finger friendly, refreshingly looking, and stable. Even though I much preferred Android to WinMo I found it TOO customizable and buggy. It would definitely slow down the more apps are downloaded on it and it would become unstable with prolonged use. How many iterations of Android have there been, supposedly fixing the bugs from the previous versions? Even with quad core this OS is not as stable, because of its inherently faulty architecture. But OK, I am not judging nor deferring anyone from using it. I am only stating my personal preference.

What I would like to have on WP7 though:
- ability to erase more pictures at once
- ability to erase multiple text messages
- true 'back' button in IE, so that I do not exit the app but only return to the previous page
- ''forward'' button in IE
- better quality call pics (I know it is Google related but still)
- camera settings saved
- bluetooth file transfer
- allowing me to edit the content of an Email before forwarding it
- higher resolution screen
...and a few more

TITAN problems:
- WiFi connection extremely unstable (extremely frustrating and a major problem on a smartphone)
- low quality calls (people have difficulty hearing me or my voice is muffled and/or choppy)
- when placing a call I see 'dialing' for a long time while in actuality the other party has heard their phone ringing, answers it, and cannot hear anything. This started to happen very often lately, I have to dial twice before the call actually goes thru
- the phone restarts itself every other day now

So this is my very last HTC phone....(I hear that even ONE X has the same issue with WiFi and while HTC has acknowledged the problem they are not fixing it!!!)

This once great and promising company has gone down in the last few years. The Flyer was overpriced and underspeced, all their recent phones look alike (and too expensive for what they offer) - no major design breakthrough, and their flagship phones are plagued with hardware issues. It is not Samsung nor Apple which are to blame for HTC's spiraling profits, it is HTC's utter lack of innovation and quality control. No brainer as to why MS refused to grant HTC the license to build WP8 tablets.

I am also displeased with MS' decision NOT to update current phones to WP8 - reminds me of HD2 update issues as well. Although I like my iPad and especially MacBook Pro I really love the Windows Phone despite its inherent faults or missing features and would love to give WP8 a try but definitely not on a HTC device.

You can add bluetooth data transfer when u unlock your device. There is an "back" option in IE...
You also can edit mails before forward it, at least i can. My wifi has always been stable, can it be that you have a weak wifi-signal.
