Not able to get multi-window working in stock...

I did try using eRobot 2.3, and managed to get the multi-window option show up, also by manually copying the contents of P6800MD3MultiWindowPhabletUIV2 into the \system folder manually.

But I would prefer getting multi-window to work with stock. And did the following:

1. Used Odin and flashed MD3 stock
Reboot
2. Used Odin and flashed CWM recovery
3. Reboot in recovery
4. Install GTP6800DeOdexedMD3
5. Install Root
6. Reboot in system
7. Update build.prop with qemu.hw.mainkeys=0 at end of line
8. Reboot in recovery
9. Install P6800MD3MultiWindowPhabletUIV2
10. Booted, and noticed that option not there
11. Navigated to \System\Framework and noticed that multiwindow.jar does not exist
** as some others that indicated that CWM did not install the files
12. Used Root Explorer, extracted P6800MD3MultiWindowPhabletUIV2 to a temporary directory
13. Used Root Explorer and copied in various ways:
- whole "system" folder to \ folder
- only \system\framework
** if the replacement was successful, it restarted
14. But on booting up, it will report System UI failure
15. Tried to workaround by using Nova launcher instead - have no System UI error
16. Clicking on "Settings" failed.

At this point, I am not sure if the multi-window option is available in Settings, as I am not able to get it to even start.

Did anyone has success in pushing multi-window capability into stock MD3? Is it possible to share the detailed steps?

Thanks in advance!

u MUST do the file replacement though recovery which means u need to use TWRP or AROMA to replace the files without making the phone freeze/reboot...also don't forget that u need to manually set permissions which is why it's not working. Also..the setting option will NOT stop this mod from working but if u have "com.sec.feature.tablet.xml" in system/etc/permissions with proper perms set then it SHOULD be there.

Thanks! I will use TWRP instead, and report back if it works.

of course try the easy way first which would be to flash using TWRP...just to be clear though what i meant was if the flash doesn't work then TWRP also has a file manager built in that u have to use. I should also point out that u will need to mount system from the TWRP menu in order to copy the files...make sure permissions (chmod) on all transferred files are set to 0644

I will give that a go.
Tried using TWRP and failed. Going for manual via TWRP file manager.

The following is my observation :
1. Flash TWRP via Mobile Odin lite
2. Flash deodex
3. Flash SU
Confirm at this point that odex files are gone.
4. Boot to system, and update build.prop with qemu.hw.mainkeys=0
5. Flash v2 via TWRP
6. Attempted to match contents of v2 zip with permission folder, but do not see the expected files.

I managed to get multiwindow as you have guided.

The following are the details that might help others:
1. Using MD3 stock (did not perform factory reset)
2. Flash TWRP recovery using Odin
3. Deodex (TWRP)
4. Root
5. Update build.prop as per OP
6. Used ES Explorer to extract v2 zip into /SdCard/0 directory as TWRP seems to not see below SdCard
7. Boot to TWRP
8. Mount "system"
9. Advanced > File Manager
10. Copied "system" folder into /
11. Navigate to /system/etc/permissions and chmod com.sec.feature.multiwindow.tablet.xml to 644
12. Reboot to system, Settings > Display and you will see the multiwindow option.

Actually, you will notice inverting of colours, as some said that it is due to Note8.

Have to re-read the forum to fix Splanner. And seems like the windows are floating. Might try v4 using same method. Will update again.

Credits to @THEDEVIOUS1

Thanks @THEDEVIOUS1 for the awesome work! :good:

I used P6800MultiWindowDefaultV4 and deleted SPlanner tablet from the /system/apps and all is fine. No force closing or any big issues.
Dialer and all is fine.
The notification area is just a small annoyance, so no issues there. :victory:

Now I have to play around with the DPI to try to get split screen. Pushing to the corner of the screen doesn't work - it just put the floating window at the edge.
Also, I see some that adjust the .xml files, not sure how that works but will look around.

Cheers! :highfive:

One of the thing that i realize after playing around is... there might not be enough space in the /system. After clering some unwanted samsung apps. It flash alright.

After removing Splanner tablet from the app folder, Splanner launches but pressing on the event will crash.

i'm glad u got everything going...i'm sure u have found it by now but if u open the mini apps tray (lil arrow on nav bar...in the middle in tablet mode, on the right in phablet) and select split icon (or any other view), open apps located there(will need samsung multiwindow manager in play store to add more) & u will have what i think u are looking for.

SPLANNER FIX: i dont use it so i never noticed but i just figured out the fix...if u dont have xposed framework installed already please do so now along with the app settings 0.4 module and set splanner to dpi to 176, hit save , and press yes to kill then try to choose an event again and u SHOULD be good to go

edit: i think this fix breaks the settings menu in splanner or maybe it was never working either (please check to see if yours works & report back)...i will edit this post again when i find a solution

Reporting in!

Yes, Splanner requires xposed framework + app settings 0.4 module to have the dpi changed to 176 to not crash out.

And thanks for reminding me of the mini apps button. I didn't thought of it, or was not thorough enough in going through the forums.

Thanks buddy!

I noticed on use that if I use Xpose with Multiwindow module or the Samsung Multiwindow app, an additional resizing bar will show up.

To workaround, I used the samsung multiwindow app, make my changes and restart.

Thereafter, I flash deodex and make changes by pushing back v2 and v4 packages.
* to make things simpler, I unzipped v2 first, then I unzip v4 into the same location. So, I just need to make a one time replacement.

After boot, the apps that I have indicated to be added as multiwindow is showing up, and the additional line is gone.

Hi all,

I have found that the stock email app's settings is not usable.

And I have to flash deodexed package (easier than to reflash the whole stock rom) and the settings show up okay.

If I make the changes by applying v2 then v4, the settings go haywire.

I thought that it might be dpi settings that might be messing up, but I tried various dpi using xposed AppSettings, but to no avail.

Does anyone have any idea?

I will try to maybe apply v2 or packages individually to see which file is causing the issue on my end.

I applied the mod V2 over the eRobot 2.3. The MultiWindow works but the lockscreen's Ink Effect has stopped working after the mod V2 applied. Any idea how to make the Ink Effect works again?

Awesome work THEDEVIOUS!

If you look at the picture below next to the 12:03 AM the icon overlaps the AM in the notification bar, is there a sys file or something I can delete or edit to remove it and the settings icon?

Either way thanks again for this!

This should apply to both of u guys...when u get to step 3 u will need to unzip & install the files from V2 (this one may flash ok...not sure) & V4 (pretty certain this one has problems) manually using TWRP or AROMA due to corrupt zip issues. I apologize about the inconvience but everything should work fine after that...dont forget to set perms as well
