Hello everybody

I used an apple iPhone 4s recently.
I noticed that it allows me to switch upto 8 applications without reloading them that too in a mere 512 mb ram.

But our HTC one x boasting 1gb ram allows me to switch upto 4 applications only.

I know that HTC has restricted it, and we can increase the limit unofficially.
But even then I am not sure about performance implications when we do that.
Also please let me know how much applications you can switch in Samsung galaxy s3 and Samsung galaxy nexus.

root, flash custom ROM and make whatever changes you need to get where you want, that is if you are on firmware that allows this.

I have already mentioned the modding possibility.
But, i am not sure the performance implications of having more than 4 apps in the background.
What's the point of the thread then, you don't want to root because it may have a negative impact of performance? That's usually the reason why we root. To push our device to the limit
The only way to truly know is to try

HTC didn't limit the number of apps for the sake of battery, but more to offset the drain on memory and speed that sense causes. You have to remember that the sense framework adds a lot of things on top of the base android OS. All that extra stuff running in the background uses memory and by using somewhat harsh memory management, they can keep all sense stuff running smooth.

If you switch to one of the new builds of CM10, you will see battery life is very close to sense roms, without the horrible multitasking.

What I said was, our HTC One x may not capable of running more than 4 applications at a time even if we tweak the operating system.

So are you trying to say that all the other mobile phones are able to switch upto 8 applications simultaneously ?
Is HTC sense such a piece of bloatware ?
Why doesn't.HTC store the applications state as did by apple iPhone to converse the battery.

How regularly do you multi-task with 8 apps? I use the ViperXL custom ROM and you can tweak your heart out on multi-tasking. Try it out - may be you could reach that number or greater.

Cheers!
