I don't care about the development community for any device. I judge a phone by the speed of its official updates.
Fair enough, I assume you steer clear of HTC, Samsung and Sony then.?

Seriously if you're concerned with updates get a nexus, or moto device. Manufacturers are either dog slow with updates, Sony, or abandoning models prematurely HTC & Samsung , so at the end of the day it's the devs that will come to your rescue.

I just got the one plus two yesterday, found out about the 3 two days after I ordered, ugh. No worries though, I believe it will be released by the 14th and that is well within my return period!
Hahaha... Returns??? You have not read up much on their customer service have you? Even legit RMA cases take for god damn ever to get resolved.

I ordered a 1+3to replace my Find7a that has been plagued with Black Screens Of Death
Slow updates are better than no updates at all
It's not a phone but Asus released their 2015 flaship tablet Zenpad 8S on Android 5.0 and is not planning to upgrade it to 6.x or even 5.1.1
No one seems to be interested in making custom roms (maybe for technical reason or lack of interest I don't know), so I'm stuck with 5.0. => No more Asus for me ever
1+3 seems to have great support, so I'm not concerned with upgrades at all

The oneplus company is small. Updates will come slowly.

With that said, I have not owned a phone where updates came frequently or even soon, besides a nexus device. All Samsung, HTC, LG, etc... have slow update releases, especially when each carrier has different requirements. One carrier usually gets the job done before the others and so on. With one plus, at least it is released at the same time, regardless of carrier.

If you judge a device by the official updates, then the only choice for you would seem to be a nexus device. I can't speak for every one here, but a lot of us buy the OP3 so we can use buggy releases, customize, and tinker with the device.

As far as dev support for the OP2, I can't answer that. But I can say I bought the OPO when released, and the OP2 just wasn't a big enough of an upgrade for me to switch. This could have been the reason dev support was low also. This device however seems to pack enough guts internally to justify the jump, and the price tag is super appealing.
