So, your second suggestion now is valid, i.e., trying the same that I did earlier and described above but with the vndklite variant?!

UPDATE 2: I tried to update from the latest PE 12.1 build. I only wiped Cache and Dalvik and then flashed the October 4 PE 13 build via fastboot (and wiped cache and dalvik again, eventually). But my Huawei P20 Lite still boots into eRecovery (Huawei Stock Recovery) every time I try to reboot into system. It does not matter whether I try to reboot from bootloader, recovery, eRecovery or from Power Off State. I guess I have to be a little more patient then.

I tried the latest release which reads "Fix boot for some devices" in its changelog, but for me it still boots into recovery. Are you aware of this?

I went into TWRP, wiped Cache and Dalvik. Then flashed the Nov 4 release of PE13, afterwards unmounted everything except SD Card, Vendor and System (mounted to read only). Then, I flashed the NFC patch and then the file Selinux-fix-Yahia-V4.0.zip. My phone still reboots into EMUI stock recovery.
Should I try to flash the PE13 img via fastboot instead of TWRP?

Well, I've never changed my kernel. I.e., I flashed from stock EMUI 9 (or 9.1, idk) to PE 12, then to 12.1 without flashing any specific kernel.

However, didn't you say that the file Selinux-fix-Yahia-V4.0.zip should make PE 13 boot even without a permissive kernel?

A13 is unstable now, it might work with some GSI builds and the next build doesn't!! please read this

You can try this recent kernels .

Kernel 4.9.319 for A13. I have rebuild it to fix keymaster2 error

I flashed the PE 13 Nov 6 build via fasboot. Then I tried to flash the Kernel you linked via fasboot also but I get this error - and I get the same version when I try v. 325:

I tried both, the Nov 6 build and then the Nov 4 build. With both builds, I first tried to boot without safe mode and on my second tries with safe mode.

Do you believe that the fact I did not do a factory reset caused the bootloop?

Always do factory reset when changing GSI's. That is not strictly necessary only when flashing the updated version of the same GSI. The same was (is?) necessary for other brands as well...

Use a permissif kernel and an update kernel with revert binder commit
