I'm not sure if this fits in with this thread, but it might.
I have an HD2, which comes with Opera Mobile 9 as the default browser.
As Opera Mini opens much faster, I thought it would be nice to have it as the default browser.
IMO, that advantage would not only be for opening web pages. A lot of help files, etc. in WinMo apps come in the form of .htm files. It would be nice to click on one of those links, and see that help file there right away, rather than wait several seconds for Opera Mobile 9 to start up. (IE starts up faster than Opera Mobile 9, but I am having trouble with its text formatting, usually way too large, no good word wrap, etc.)
I should mention that the Opera Mini I have installed is the native WM beta 5.
So, I tried the following--With Resco Explorer, I navigated to a local .htm help file in my Windows folder. With a hold-press, I got the context menu, and chose "Open With..", then chose Opera Mini.
Strange result. Opera Mini started, but it did not open the file I selected at all. It just went to its start page, with its speed dials.
Is Opera Mini incapable of opening up any other way, than opening its own start page? (Unfortunately, it gives you no choice of any other kind of start page even, and Opera Mobile 10 as well. Even for its speed dials, I would prefer a text listing as in Opera Mini 4. But that's besides the point.)
That makes me wonder--how could Opera Mini be used as a default browser, if it will only start with its own start page? If you click on a link in an e-mail, it will not open that link, but will go to its start page. If you open a local .htm help file (also part of the function of a default browser), it won't open that page, but its start page instead!
Well, I assume you folks have probably found a way around that problem, with the scripts and such. Could anyone explain though, why when I selected an .htm file on my phone, and chose "open with Opera Mini", Opera Mini started, but did not open that page at all?
