My note 8 is dual sim but the model is N950F

I have an N950FD too and yes the model shows up in settings as N950F. This is normal. It's really an F model, but with 2 sims instead of 1 so they call it "FD". There is no actual FD firmware though, it's F firmware.

With the dual SIM, is there a way for both to be active, to be able to receive calls on either line at the same time?

Not sure... I assume so, but I only use 1 sim at the moment and haven't played around with 2 sums yet. Maybe someone else can still help though.
