Lol I love these Samsung fan boy comments. Especially about water resistant as a gimmick. You know what's a gimmick? Blasting Sony for poor viewing angle. Who in the right mind views their phone from an angle? Are you mentally special? Now that's a gimmick. Water resistant, that's a function. It actually had a purpose, you won't cry like a B when your phone accidentally comes in contact with water the next time around. What is wrong with people these days, get your head straight.

Oh and to the poster that says note 2 is innovative or something along those lines? What part is innovating or remotely smart about making a phone the size of a brick and putting it next to your face? Haha, gg and no re. Samsung has been stuck on the iPhone 3g design that they had stolen from Apple 3 years ago. Common, seriously? But I guess people don't care for originality anymore.

My Z never intentionally goes near water, waterproof or not.

It is reassuring to have an additional layer or protection, but using the phone inside the pool can only serve for showing off.

The fact is that water resistance was the factor that least contributed to my decision of buying XPZ. This is my 5th Sony(-Ericsson), 3rd Android after X10 and XPS, and I've always felt well served (and additionally supported by xda).

This phone is amazingly gorgeous, fast, resistant. After 3 weeks is completely tuned to my needs.

I don't need to say any negative things about other brands to feel good about my purchase.

I just don't get why people are trolling around about not being able to use the screen when submerged under water. For one, Sony never claimed it to be waterproof! Hence, why the screen isn't working when submerged. They claim it to be water resistant and it definitely is. (I've tried.) I for one see the value of it being water resistant, we all at times are clumsy and spill something, everywhere it rains at times, it's just a feature to make it more durable. Definitely not to swim with it or take underwater pictures with it. By the way, no one can actually speak underwater so no need to make phone calls underwater, no? As someone mentioned before, you'd only take it into the pool to show off.

About it being durable, I can't really tell yet, dropped it thrice, it fell from my pocket and nothing happened. But it wasn't on concrete but semi hard surfaces. (Gotta be honest, no.) despite not having experienced real challenges yet, I can almost certainly say the Z is more durable than it's competitors. And by the way I'm not using any cases. Will buy some soon.

I can see their point mate.
My next door neighbour has informed me he can no longer see what I'm doing on my phone from his place.
Gutted!

IMO

Well, to me the whole idea of water resistant function is for the user to clean the phone when it gets dirty or oily. Imagine when you are having your meal which is sticky or oily based, nah now you know the importance of that function.

The extreme case, you drop your phone into the toilet bowl with full of your s**t or whatever you may call it, are you just gonna pick it up and wipe it with just tissue, ewwwww!!!!! with the water resistant function you can clean it people (plus a lil bit of anti bacteria soap would be perfect)

Needless to say, the phone without water resistant function may not be able to survive when it comes to this situation.

Now the people with nosy eyes can't see what you're doing on your screen and I see that as a plus not a con.

Trolls do view their phones from an angle ...while trying to use it under water :crying:
Then they come here and cry out loud about how bad it is.

As I stated before: don't feed the trolls. Ignore them. They die automagically when you ignore them.

I come from the Note 2 to XZ. I'm now 7 weeks using this gorgeous device. IMO this is the most beautiful Android device to date! The phone is now tuned to work very well with my daily needs. I keep mine bare naked, no case as something this good looking should be appreciated for its design (unlike Samsung's boring design, even with the new S4). I make use of the water proof feature cos I wash the phone once a week to clean away the grease. Anyway, there are some minor bugs and hopefully they'll get fixed with the next update. Sony has done an excellent job with this phone! Nice launcher, widgets etc, very much clean and crisp skin, perfect for me. Other fanboys can troll this device as much as they like but they can only envy because no other Android handset manufacturer has managed to create such a good balance between design, performance and software.

I need to preface this post by stating I am the proud owner of the XZ, SGS3 and the Note. All three devices are top notch and do what it says on the packet. The rest is personal taste etc.

One thing I do wish my fellow Sony XZ owners would stop doing is seeing the water resistance as a licence to dunk their mobile in water to either 'test it' or use it in the shower, bath or swimming pool!
My car has seat belts, front air bags, side air bags, crumple zones and a plethora of other safety devices should I have an accident. How many of you have driven your car into a brick wall to test these safety devices? Equally absurd to keep pushing a safety feature of the XZ.
The XZ is not designed to take water in its stride its designed to accept some small contact with water. The XZ is NOT a water proof phone and is not meant to be used or abused as such.

My only problem with Z is that after these 3 weeks the phone is so tuned to my needs that I don't have nothing left to tweak... I keep digging xda for new things but most of the add ons are just silly.

X10, those were the days...

Well precisely it can stand 30 minutes under the water, max 1 meter deep.
So it's much more than just a contact with water.

It is not meant to be used under water. But it IS water proof.
Now may I show you the following chart:

.....................................................................................................................................................................................................

"Watches are often classified by watch manufacturers by their degree of water resistance which, due to the absence of official classification standards, roughly translates to the following (1 metre ≈ 3.29 feet):[5]

Water resistance rating Suitability Remarks
Water Resistant 3 ATM or 30 m Suitable for everyday use. Splash/rain resistant. NOT suitable for showering, bathing, swimming, snorkelling, water related work and fishing. NOT suitable for diving.
Water Resistant 5 ATM or 50 m Suitable for swimming, white water rafting, non-snorkelling water related work, and fishing. NOT suitable for diving.
Water Resistant 10 ATM or 100 m Suitable for recreational surfing, swimming, snorkelling, sailing and water sports. NOT suitable for diving.
Water Resistant 20 ATM or 200 m Suitable for professional marine activity, serious surface water sports and skin diving. Suitable for skin diving.
Diver's 100 m Minimum ISO standard (ISO 6425) for scuba diving at depths NOT suitable for saturation diving. Diver's 100 m and 150 m watches are generally old(er) watches.
Diver's 200 m or 300 m Suitable for scuba diving at depths NOT suitable for saturation diving. Typical ratings for contemporary diver's watches.
Diver's 300+ m for mixed-gas diving Suitable for saturation diving (helium enriched environment). Watches designed for mixed-gas diving will have the DIVER’S WATCH L M FOR MIXED-GAS DIVING additional marking to point this out.

Manufacturers water resistance classifications are interpretations and are not part of any ISO standard definition."

..........................................................................................................................................................................................................
Now, as you can see the very watch you wear on your wrist is not what you thought it was in terms of being water proof...:p

I can assure you nothing man made that I know of at present is water proof. I have written this in at least a dozen threads on this forum and still posters fail to understand the difference. Not even a submarine is water proof as one member commented. Take a sub past its operating depth and you know what will happen to it...implodes like an egg shell.

There is an awful lot more to this water resistance too. When Sony show an XZ in water that water is still, this is highly significant as passing water over the face of the phone will further reduce its water resistance. That is why a watch rated as water resistant at 30M is STILL not suitable to take even into a shower.
Sony have been rather unwise to show some ads with the phone sitting in a small bowl of water. This will make customers think the phone is water proof. Though Sony CLEARLY state in the instructions the mobile is only safe to a given standard there are already people using them in the shower, bath and even sauna. Now add to this already difficult scenario and add temperature to the equation and we have a phone that is in truth accidental water contact resistant to a very specific degree and nothing more. Sony merely wanted to show the phone could take some contact with water like wet hands, use in the rain etc.
The XZ is a domestic phone, if we want a more robust mobile look at the new CAT mobile now that is built like a brick and is an entirely different animal to our slim and elegant XZ
I strongly respectfully suggest one keeps the XZ away from deliberate water contact. It is not an industrial phone.

The Sony store here has one in a fishtank. On and permanently submerged. I asked if it comes out and the guy said just for a recharge. They rotate two devices and both have not failed. So waterproof or water resistant, the phone is watertight.

Now now lets be civil. Just because I can afford a proper smartphone and not a subsidised cheap feeling poor spec asus device doesnt mean you need to hate.

Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app
Then go troll over there. If you own a Note 2 why would you come here and talk sh!t? thats not civilize at all. xperia Z is anything but cheap and thats coming from a guy who hasnt own a sony smart phone and been an avid Samsung user. I have the two S3, the first one I drop, although screen is fine but the bezel scratch up it just piss the hell out of me so I bought another one. I thought I wasnt going to switch another phone for a while even though I know the S4 was going to come out but I was wrong the Z is a rare beauty and its more durable then any phone out there in the market. Dragontrail glass is stronger then gorilla 2 apparently just youtube sony xperia active drop test.

P.S the note 2 isnt all that great, I dont like to carry a phone that look like a damn mini tablet and I cant imagine how much of a b!tch sticking that down my jeans.
