Problem:
I recently switched to Lineage OS and aside from some crashes I haven't had any issues. I set up all my apps and it's been fine for a couple weeks.

I left my phone charging overnight. I opened the play store and manually clicked 'update all' to let it do it overnight.

I was a bit weirded out when my alarm didn't ring in the morning (luckily I had a non-phone alarm, I had work today!). I look at my phone and it was stuck in the Lineage boot animation.

I shut it off and on again, it was saying it didn't recognise the SD card. Rebooted again.

This time it did recognise it but... basically the phone had reset itself. Some apps still kept their settings: I'm still logged into Facebook Lite, for example, and Musicolet perserved the exact moment at which I had paused a song. Everything else acted as if the phone had just got a fresh install.

I realise by now it's irrecoverable because I've been using the phone for hours (I had no choice, it has my bus ticket on it). But I still can't figure out what happened. The phone seems to be working fine, it has no trouble accessing files both in internal memory and SD card. but it had even forgotten my contacts, which needed to be synced from google and were not in the SIM card.

I'm just trying to find out what I did wrong so it doesn't happen again, I can't afford this level of stress over a phone.

One thing to point out is my phone always runs very hot, despite using battery saver stuff with Clean Master. The only way to make it not run hot is to disable mobile signal and only use wifi. This has not changed after installing Lineage OS.

Let me know if you need any more details and thank you.
