Yes. That's how I have done it before. Use Root Explorer, replace the entire folder as long as it is all original files in it. Then reboot and it should be fine.

Yea, that's what I did. Couldn't just delete the folder and paste it for some reason, had to delete efs contents and paste the contents into the folder but it worked. Thanks for the reply. And thank god for taking the time and backing up efs eh?

Ok when I enter that code i get the following

SMS SELLOUT
NO SUPPORT

What does it mean?

Is it because I have text messaging blocked through ATT?

I am rooted Samsung Infuse, but have not deleted any crapware.

Kies Mini says unregistered device

Even though you're on an Infuse I'll gamble.......... It's most likely 1 of the 2.
  1. You're not running TouchWiz when you connect.
  2. You have a Kernel other than stock

Seems to be that 99% of the problems (talking Captivates here) I've seen on these boards for "unregistered device" from Kies mini come down to one of those two.

And........you'll have better luck if you post your future questions in the Infuse section.

Good point, I was neglecting altered IMEI Numbers. Was hoping for his sake that this wasn't the case because it sounds like a pain in the rear to change the IMEI back to the correct number. Not sure as I've never done it, hope I never have to.

Still seems to me that there are a ton of users who ask this and it ends up being a 3rd party launcher instead of TouchWiz. Just my observation. Just wanted to give two possibilities that can easily be checked quickly before looking at more complicated options.

It wasn't the IMEI, that was fine was somethign in the NV_data. I don't remember specifics but something different between ATT captivates ID and other captivates ID. Regardless Fixed that then Had to jump through 100 hoops, its stupid. Only reason i did it was for warranty exchange =/

Thanks, yeah I was running a different launcher. I tried it with touch wiz but same result. I don't believe I have a different kernel. Based on some other research it appears some with stock unrooted phones have same result.

By the way, I posted here because it seemed relevant (although I realize the phones are the same). I couldn't find a relevant post for the infuse, so I posted it here. Thanks for trying to help.

I don't think will flash the efs partition. Heimdall will. I've flashed to stock several times, turns out my product code was wrong. Mini kies kept saying unregistered device, but my imei was correct. Once i busted out ahex editor and repaired my product code mini kies worked.

That is actually true! Trust us! :) A custom rom is wayyy better than stock
+10000 on this. You are going through a lot of work to get back to crappy stock experience. Most of us here do half as much work to get a custom ROM which offers better performance, overall experience and support.
You need support to get to stock and we are still helping you!
Come on over to the dark side, the water is fine.

soooo...i just bought my phone a few days ago, brand new out of box and my code says: SGH-I897zkzatt
I just bought a new Captivate on eBay and it has the same code. The phone was unlocked, but was supposed to be otherwise in new, factory fresh condition. It looks new, no scratches or dings or anything.

What does this slightly different product code mean? The phone is not rooted and as far as I know it is the stock Froyo (UCJJ4) build. Does this altered product code from being unlocked? If I go through the procedure in the other thread mentioned (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=880223) to fix that code, will that relock my phone, or will it stay unlocked? I'm using it on T-Mobile, so I need it to stay unlocked.

I'm just looking to upgrade to get the benefits of Gingerbread and (hopefully) get my GPS to work. Once it's out of warranty I'll think about trying custom ROMs.
