So i was torn between 2 phones, GALAXY S4 and Xperia Z 4G

so i found a used Galaxy S4 " i live in KSA for the time being - Work " and i decided to buy it since its cheaper than brand new phone and this one looked new to me. everything was still in the box.

i picked the phone. 2 days. i returned it back. for many reasons:

1- the Screen. while its colorful. i am very OCD when it comes to screen. if my screen isnt perfect. i will pass on the whole phone. and i went through Amoled screens. since GS2. and i am either stuck with weird grid that is visible on dark gray colors. or un even colors on the screen. top pinkish lower blue or whatever vise versa. . its really horrible .

2- the user interface. OMG i am holding a GS3. its the same thing. nothing changed !!!!. they say the screen is Full HD. but the icons are about the same size " big " and i felt like i am still with GS3.

3- the phone it self. is almost the same as GS3 / Note 2. in fact when i carried the phone to my work. i had an idea to put it on top of my table and just check if people will notice it. no one did. till my friends came over and i said i have the S4 and they were like really ? then they started checking it out.

now ofcourse you do not buy the phone to impress your friends, but still its kinda sad to see it like this.

4- the phone is powerful. at least on tests. its powerful. but i didnt notice it in games to be honest but one. which is real racing. and i have been told there are kernals that fix the performance.

so. i returned it back and hunted for a different phone. so i found this one phone. an LTE Xperia Z where the official release of Xperia is 3G only in this country. i took the phone, checked the screen from dead pixels, light leakage etc. nothing. smooth perfect. colors are natural.

the phone it self imo is sexy as hell. i like the design of the phone more than HTC ONE and GS4. in reminded me of Iphone 4 but sexier.

very impressive. super fast. i took the GS4 during sunlight . even in highest brightness, i couldnt see much. while on xperia Z even @ 50% brightness, its very readable.

only thing that bugged me alittle was the colors of the screen was more of yellowish. when i like them blue, i downloaded this program "screen adjuster" and it fixed my colors without even rooting needed.. " if there is a better program even with rooting, please let me know. "

oh. and i saved my ass 200$ between the GS4. to be honest. the GS4 is overpriced and not really worth the upgrade if you are an Xperia Z owner.

specially when phone with Tegra 4 processor coming soon. even the HTC ONE "which is the same power as GS4 "wont hold a candle compared to Tegra 4 phones.

I had both and ended up staying with the S4, purely because it worked well with my daily and productivity needs. I loved the Z, design and interface etc but S4 eventually won me over. Both are great devices in different ways. Good you found one that works for you.

Btw, hope the thread does not end up ruined by the fanboys. I did a nice comparison thread on my Z and S4, it ended up closed cos some people went out of line.

I used that screen adjuster app on the Xperia S and noticed that it lagged the ui quite badly. The xz might have enough power to not notice but I would suggest not using it , you'll adjust to the colour temperature after a few days if not hours. My Xperia play is very bluish and I found the xs screen too warm for my liking but after a while I found the xplay screen temperature horrible.
You could also wait for the firmware update which lets you adjust the white balance.

Yes, there is a sony app for adjusting white balnce. You get it in new .253 fw, or via root method on your existing fw. You can update fw via flashtool if you're impatient to get it through offical chanells ;). connect your xz to pc to check for new update. Glad to hear you likr your XZ. I haven't even for a second considered getting an S4. They feel realy toyish in mu hand

I just want to ask how much improvement does the white balance app make on the screen in terms of blacks and viewing angles? My Z seemed to exhibit some backlight bleeding thus the blacks weren't enough for me. Sadly I don't have the chance to check it for myself anymore because my Z went back for a refund after going into the service center twice. Thx

Yes, Its official Sony Software see a link : Bridge for Mac software
With Sony Bridge for Mac you can update your Android phone software, transfer media between your phone and iTunes,
iPhoto or a custom folder on your Mac. Separate files can also be transferred between your phone and Mac by using “drag and drop” in a file browser.
You can also backup and restore your phone content (availability depending on phone model).
If you’re new to Sony devices, and your previous phone was an iPhone,
you can use Xperia™ Transfer to move your content from the iPhone to your new Sony device.

What was the reason for servicing?

What was the reason for servicing?
The speaker volume was going high for a second and then extremely low the next. First time servicing they said the speaker had a loose connection and fixed it but only for me to find out that the problem still persisted 3 hours later. So it went back in for a fix again the next day and they also updated the firmware. Got the unit back still the same problem but then came another, the phone was constantly rebooting. Eventually, I just returned it to my credit card company and got a full refund.

Kind of funny I was thinking about this today, someone was on the bus with a Samsung, that's all I could tell ;) styling now is far behind and boring IMO.
I have always hated the Samsung screen colours. I had the HTC Desire AMOLED now that screen was great and the colours were spot on, which proves that the screen doesn't need to look like that.
