You kind of forgot that the XZ doesn't use any old TFT, it uses IPS-TFT.
its not about screen tech at all ... its about eyeball test (Obviously its my opinion ... many people like XZ screen more than XS and vice versa)
about screen tech ... i dont know why IPS screen nexus 4 does not produce better colors than my SLCD HTC flyer..i tried all different things set same wallpaper on both etc. just difference is shapness due to ppi count.. so i just consider what looked better to my eyes... XS looked better than Z (just my opinion)...
just was trying to say XZ did not live up to my expectation and why... maybe it was TFT that they used was responsible ... maybe JDI/ Sharp panels are below par .... there are always multiple reasons.
PS : i would love to have a TFT IPS display if they somehow remove all the limitations that are in Z right now and believe me Sony will surely change screens by next year... they know where negative marketing is going on... so there is no point defending it.

and obviously lets not drift from the topic S4 vs XZ i think s4 screen is a better battery saver so that is what counts most ... also it doesn't suffer from many problems that are in other screens... outdoor visibility is crap in every device... those who think colors are still over saturated on amoled i recommend going to showrooms and checking screen out again... Amoled cant be used in sunlight that is a fact though.

I had XZ with me for 15 days. After that i sold it and bought s4. I am not a fan of Samsung design. I loved the XZ design and waterproofing ability. That mobile looked premium. But i got disappointed by the camera quality. Even my year old s3 had better quality than 13mp of sony. I know its a software problem but sony is taking too much time. After i bought s4, i got a software upadate in just 1 day which Fixed many issues. Also even though s4 has the same camera lens as XZ, the camera quality is very much better than Z. I have compared the photos on my laptop and the difference in sharpness , color accuracy and exposure was clearly visible. But i have to say that sony has done a really fantastic job with XZ this time.

http://puu.sh/2R4FO.jpg I haven't ran Any tests, but my status bar & soft keys are still pitch black. And movie quality looks great, really great. So for me, I love it.

Who the hell watches a complete black screen on your phone anyway, I can do that without turning on the screen.

Edit: where does the guy on the video get purple from, I'ts baby blue. The photo when he had the red shirt looked great, on both the others he popped out due to saturation, he looked edited
Jeez man really? Of course nobody watches a plain black screen but when the phone displays the blacks it isnt pure black. And no it isnt because its not AMoled, other phones are able to display decent blacks at any brightness level, with the XZ well just watch the vids that i provided you. If you cant see the screen losing its color then youre lucky as it shouldnt be an issue for you but 99% of people do.

Wow! There's so much discussion on the screen. I love the Z and screen's natural colors but honestly the screen could have been better. I got to play with the Z tablet yesterday and the screen does not exhibit the same issues as it's smartphone counterpart.

I've watched the first vid, and he called clear blue purple. Lol. I have perfect colours. The viewing angles are no problem.
The xz is far from perfect. I could make a topic going over all the cons and pros. But not gonna bother.

I would've taken the HTC1if it wasn't for when I dropped it that one time I had to go collect pieces of speakers. ( and a weird light coming from the edges, but it wasn't a deal breaker)

Here in my country the xperia z and s4 are the same price tag (~30$ difference)
and i'm really confused i have tried both and i liked the xperia z more
but i'm worried that xperia will get a bit old (hardware wise) for the new apps and games in general

Today I perfectly understood how Sony contrast control works across the device.
Now I can confirm the UI is less saturated just for batt saving and and has dimmed contast and colours compared to gallery, apps....

I just made a screenshot. And the homescreen looks totally different in the gallery than in original.
Skocking difference.

That's the reason why people whine so much about the Z's screen, which is great.

As Cosinav doesn't have both phone anymore so can't make the comparative, I can propose you the link of the comparaison of the photos taken by the Xperia Z and the S4.

My blog is in french, but the most important it's the photos. For those who don't understand french, the photos are classified :
the top left it's S4, the top right it's Xperia Z. Below on the left it's the iPhone 4S and below on the right it's my Nikon D3200.
I use for the test, the iPhone 4S because I don't have anymore my iPhone 5 (but it don't change many things). And I use my reflex as a control, to show you the right color. The quality of the photos made by my reflex is widely better that the smartphone photos.

And there is the link of my Flickr account for those who wants to see all the photos I've made for the test.
I didn't transform the photos. But for the reflex, I had to decrease the size by 50% because there are too heavy (24 Mpx)

As a matter of fact yes, I usually prefer to keep BE2 off all the time. And btw, I too had Xperia S in the past but I find the XZ screen better (has deeper blacks & whiter whites than XS). I have also had note2, and Xperia ZL in the recent past. I've had various Samsung, Sony(ericsson) & Nokia devices in the past and I am no fanboy either.
I agreed BE2 is not that great...sometime its too dark, just completely eliminate all detail. On bright scene it looks good but dark scene and movies like Transformer, its...ehh

Up until last year, I felt that the Android war was pretty much all about spec. Everyone just wanted to have the highest spec possible. I think that from 2013 onwards, spec will play a less important role as tech in today's flagship handsets handles pretty much all we throw at it. Moving forward, design and software will increasingly become the 2 most important factors for a successful flagship. On top of that, a good brand eco-system is also key. There's going to be a lot of great choices for us in the coming future!

The X Z is a truly magnificent beast. Samsung's record of bricks and lack of developmental support makes the Z an easy choice.

Are you sure? I've allways sony phones. After years of been abandoned by them I'm proudly user and very satisfied customer of samsung. Sony lacks on updates, and very poor support. I've been happy that they try to change that in 2011 on xperia devices but that was a bluff. Look at samsung that updates firmwares on a daily basis. Phones like xpera s must to wait a year to be updated! And not to mention that they leave phones without correcting original bugs like my satio!

I have to agree with this. To me, the fact that I got 22 euros for my ps3 from Sony and a UI that resembles stock andriod(softkeys ftw!) with the "small apps" (which I find works better than samsungs multiwindow) are just the great things I was looking for. And I don't have to mention anything about the design. Personally I chose to stick with the Z as I have had bad experiences from Samsung in the past :( (All galaxy aces have screen defects which Samsung refuses to solve).

Previously I used S3 & Note 2. Now on XZ and really loving it. About Display? I don't care much about display. All Samsung device display were over saturated & not really true colour. You may know if you go to note 2 development section. Most of the people do not understand what is true colour. You can see a lot of arguments in perseus kernel treat when great dev Andrei implement screen calibration. Some people like it and some don't. Also both S3 & Note2 visibility are very poor under sunlight. For XZ you can see everything clearly under sunlight except viewing angle problem. Other thing I don't like about XZ is battery life. So both have proc and con. I never chose S4 because of the design. Actually I really like note 2 but I left it because of lag whenever I open widget drawer( All Sammy devices had that issue even on S4) that totally annoying me. Sony don't have that problems but they should release some update for camera and others minor problems. That is my point of view. I am not a fan boy so I will go whichever is better. Note: I compared all latest 3 devices ( XZ , S4 & HTC ONE) before chosen XZ which is more stylish than others.

Thread closed for the several of reasons. First of all, comparing two different phones is something which shouldn't take place. Samsung is a different phone, so I really don't see the point in comparing that device to Sony.

Second thing. Some of you crossed the line. We're adults so please keep acting like them. Name calling and insulting other members will lead you to infractions/bans, so please, think twice before posting in such immature manner.
Thank you,

Tom
