thanks for all the info.

just one thing though... you mention that "Beginning with the Ice Cream Sandwich stock recoveries, Google has disabled the ability to flash updates manually in stock recovery"

the google+ posts comments by JBQ suggest that the incremental updates issue is just a bug and that they have worked on a fix.

thought that might be useful to know. thanks again.

For the Xoom MZ604 - The link you have states that there is no known fastboot files for HTJ85B. I have them (and have had them since July 2011 or so).

I used them again last night to get back to stock. Let me know if you want them.

Thanks,

edit: Going back, I see that the fastboot files I have for the HTJ85B are NOT "Official" stock images. They do work well though when needed to get back to stock to take OTA. Sorry for the confusion.

Interesting...on the Galaxy Nexus, you can technically flash OTAs manually in stock recovery but you have to get the file into /cache in order to flash it. If this "bug" gets fixed (in Google's factory source, not AOSP) on the Xoom and Nexus S, they will probably do the same thing...force it to be flashed from /cache instead of a USB OTG connected drive (or USB storage on the Nexus S).

Since non rooted users have no access to /cache, it is still reasonable to say you can't flash OTAs manually unless you install CWM. But I will reexamine the wording and make some additional notes about it.

Thanks for the input!
