Thanks, I already had the latest 1.6.24 but will give it another shot as the xboxexpert scripts are not working too well (no gmail).

Back to Android...?

Hi there

Now I bought myself an N2E and am pretty happy with this great device. Nevertheless I rooted it and everything was working fine.

I was stupid when I decided to tick the box that sets the Nook homescreen as standard. So now I am not able to return back to Android anymore. (The apps I had set as standard, e.g. ezPDF, Opera Mini, still work like a charm.)

Any help?

I even tried to re-root the device but no luck. Should I have to factory-reset: How do I do this?

Thank you for your help!

You can try the app "Home switcher" if you want to change the default home screen

Thank you for your reply.

How can I install the app without the possibility to access the Android Screen? This to me seems the main problem. I just cannot get into the rooted system.

May I ask you for a step by step guide to do this?

Many thanks!

Connect to the same wifi as your computer running ADB. Go to the wireless settings on your nook, click on the network you're connected to and note the ip address. In Windows, click run->cmd then type "adb connect " and type said noted ip. Mine would look like "adb connect 192.168.5.108". It should be connected. Now assuming you've downloaded the APK files, just navigate to the directory in the command prompt (or drop the apk files in the current directory it's at, most likely C:/user/yourname) and type "adb install ./apks/yourpackagename.apk". Obviously, replacing "yourpackagename" with the name of the file you've downloaded.

Done.

If you can't access the other launcher and apps installing Home Switcher most likely won't work because it won't reset your defaults. The easiest way should (in theory) be to install another home launcher. Try Zeam or something. Once it installs, reboot, then it should prompt for you to pick your default launcher. Do it and uninstall the other one. Or keep it, whatever you'd like

Thanks mate!

As soon as I am at home I will try as I do not have WLAN possibilities in my office. I will keep you updated.

Yes, exactly, v1.0.0. Why are you asking? Any problems with that?

Nope was just wondering, I reset my rooted Nook Touch back to the original state and also did the 8 failed attempts to get it to do the software restore and the screensavers that I put on the memory card aren't showing in the options to change them when they were before so I wasn't sure if there was a update that was out

So you rooted and restored the Nook Touch back to factory settings and it worked? I am happy to hear that, because in case everything fails this would be my last solution...

Ya I forgot to make the backup and I was having issues with the touch screen would just stop responding and I would have to completely turn the device off and back on again. I had to reset the device and then do the 8 fail attempts to get it back to it's original state Well it at least appears it's the original state

So - well, I did not manage to get it back to it's original state, neither to access my N2E via WLAN nor do the 8 fail attempts... Nevertheless I am happy having found - as it seems - a solution to solve my problem. (Just to remember: I was not able to go back to the Android home screen on my rooted Nook.)

I used the Nook's internal possibility to reset and everything seemed to look like the state I bought my Nook with. Then I re-rooted the device and voilà - I got the Android home screen back!

I just want to thank everybody for their help, although I had to find the solution myself. Your infos made me think and finally resolve.

Good to hear! I'd assumed you would've already tried the Nook internal restore when you first posted. That method worked for me as well when something went wrong on my first root attempt

Alternative Keyboard

Good morning everybody,

So, the next step I would like to make: Change the keyboard. I already tried BetterKeyboard 8, without success. I installed it and moved the .apk to /system/app. It does not work.

Help is much apreciated.

...
I changed my keyboard to a german one too.
since hackers keyboard is not available for <2.2 androids, i use better keyboard 8 with german layout.
(you have to move the apk from /data/app to /system/app and activate it with nook color tools)
...

i installed it from the market,
moved the apk from /app to /system/app, Reboot,
and activated it with the nook color tools...

I posted this question earlier but never heard anything...

Is anyone else having trouble with the Kobo app? I've tried multiple versions, one from the Amazon AppStore, and pushed 2 old APK's I found. Also tried using Titanium backup to backup from my phone and restore the APK+Data to the N2E, but still problems.

It seems I can open the app, and read samples of the books and that's fine, it is just when I try to open one of my own books that I have purchased through the Kobo store. I've tried buying a book within the device, but the payment won't go through. Also, if you go and try to search the store within the app it causes the Nook to reset. Anyone have any success?

edit: BTW, I rooted using xboxexpert method. Although I haven't gotten Market and Gmail working because I don't care to have my emails on this thing so I haven't tried too hard to fix it. I thought maybe gaining access to the market maybe triggered something the Kobo is looking for, so I installed a copy of Froyo on my netbook without the Market and just installed the Kobo apk and everything works fine. hmm

Several people mentioned newsrob working, however, when I use it (pro since I bought some time ago on my droid), whenever I scroll an article, newsrob no longer changes articles properly - like when I go back and forth, the title changes, but the article stays the same. I've seen this happen rarely on my phone, but it's happening every time on the nook touch. Anyone else notice this?

Threw this together to showcase all that we've got going on here over on the XDA forums.

Credits been given where credit is due.
Probably won't be too entertaining for anyone who has already rooted their nook. ;)

You can find my wallpaper here:
    nookDroid

Imaged is sized so you don't have any issues cropping it using the default Android gallery app.

    No problems here,WTF, just exploration.
    Lol, just checking.

Thanks folks for your reply! Calling their support indeed helped, I made a really STUPID mistake of registering onto a wrong account ([email protected] instead of [email protected]) but B&N website was nice enough to not detect that it isn't a valid email address :/
Haha, I've been working with computers all my life, I can't tell you how many times I've encountered something that's frustrated me to some lengthy extent to only come to the conclusion that I mistyped something or it was a simple mistake.

Lastly, I switched out three of the theme for Button Savior with my own icons to increase contrast. I totally redrew them from scratch, only one I copied over was the "Settings" button, made my own and didn't like it. Liked the old one too much. I'll contact jerryfan2000 and see if he'll have a problem with me either
    A) Sending him my themes so he can make a release for us or
    B) Let me redistribute under the premise that I use test keys to sign the apk.

Until then, I made two mistakes that I need to fix before I post any apk.

    There's three themes.
    • Black and white (Black outline, white center)
    • Metro (Black Square, white center) Like WP7
    • Transparent (Black outline, white center at 15% opacity[Not in photo])

I also doubled the size of the "Minimize" button and reskinned it. God-sent if you ask me.

I'll get to this over the weekend.
WHY did I take summer classes this semester!? Man I'm stupid, no free time. Doesn't help that I work too.
