Hi folks,

I'm back again with another problem on my STR :(

My nook constantly turns on by itself and gets drained out of battery.. and now it has drained completely of its battery, and when I attempt to charge it, after 8 hours or so of charging, it still says the battery is too low to power on!

I have done this for 2 times and I'm at wits end now.. Seems like my battery is faulty? And I have no way to return my STR... sigh...

Has any folks here encountered the same issue with their STR?

That sucks. I'm sure you've tried doing a complete factory restore using the 8 fail boots and such method? If you've done that, and you can't return it, maybe your battery is faulty. The device is too new to find replacement batteries, but based on the teardown pics I've seen it doesn't look like it's hard to change. Other then that not really sure what to say, sorry

My first one had a faulty battery and a faulty touchscreen too...fortunately I was able to return it.

Everything working ok here except that I can no longer change the wpa_supplicant file to switch from the AdHoc friendly version to the "standard version". I used to do that with gscript but now it tells me that the file system is protected/locked. That happened after I ran a few scripts from xboxexpert to allow non-market installs although I can't see why that would be a problem. Anything seen that before and found a fix? Thanks!

Odd request for Nook Simple Touch image running from the sdcard

Maybe this isn't top priority, but if someone just happens to be able to get something like this working...I'd love to have it.

I'd like to find an image of the Nook Simple Touch that will boot and run off of an sdcard. The Nook Simple Touch demo's that we have at work only run a looping display that shows what the device supposedly can do. There is no way for a potential customer to actually do anything or play with the device in trying to decide whether to buy one. (Fwiw, we also sell the Nook color and the original Nook...both are fully functional and let the customer fully try them out.)

I tried the factory reset, but it resets to the same looping demo, so that's out. I think if I could just run a copy of the OS from the sdcard so that at least customers could get a real feel for how it looks and works, they would sell much better.
Thanks,
JTT

Have you already tried booting it with a microsd formatted with the touchnooter?

Hey all,
This is something which I have been trying to do for a while now but can seem to get working.

I am trying to enable USB ADB on my nook.

Yes, I am aware that there is a pretty looking drivers package with bat for windows, but I am on an amd64 debian based linux distro.

I tried the nookdevs USB ADB guide for the nook color (as the str and color are quite similar) but adb devices is completely blank.

I have created udev rules in a 50., 51., and 99. file but no success.

blkid and lsusb, all show my device and seem to correspond with the nook dev directions. But again what matters (adb devices) just shows blank.

So now i'm at a loss.

I know i can use adhoc but USB ADB is great , and I cant make an adhoc network right now (only have one wireless card in use).

I'd appreciate your help, and am sure many people will find this useful.

Thank you,
Endor

I'm not sure that's what he's looking for. Touchnooter boots off the SD, but it still writes to the internal storage. Once it's booted and you remove the SD it's still rooted. Since this is a demo unit I'm assuming he's looking for something that can be restored to stock with just removing the card. If I'm wrong, then by all means give Touchnooter a whirl

Thank you for sharing the video and wallpaper. I have all the apps working wonderfully on mine so far. I took the wallpaper image you supplied and made a little pencil sketch of it. It looks amazing rendered on the eInk screen. A little bit of charcoal behind the Button Savior toolbar makes them pop.

Can you also send me a copy of your background. I like it! Also what launcher are you using? I'm using what came with TouchNooter and can not have as many icons on the screen. Ryan

Yikes! Loved that launcher. I can get at most 4 icons per row and I believe 5 rows per page on the actual launcher...
We should make a sticky with the background and the widgets. I know I've seen them in this post, but I can't find them.

If I'm not wrong the Nook 2 has a Neonode zforce touchscreen and I've seen somewhere that this one supports multi-touch.

Therefore, there might be a way to enable multitouch ... (could be very useful in some apps where pinch-to-zoom is the only way to zoom in)

adb over USB is quite easy, you just need to modify the uRamdisk

Could you add this feature to TouchNooter ?

What do you use as book reader after rooting? I like Nook's reader for its caching feature, and its speed but it lake of font size choice, the smallest is too small and the one after is already too big. I compare to a friends Orizon and it has more choice (but I prefer Nook's screen ;) ).

I also use the stock reader for the same reasons and I also think that it should have more choice ... Maybe you can try another bigger font.

No.

Can someone post the instruction here as the nookdev is down (error 502)
It's back (and you can always find them on other websites or with Google cache).
Or else, you can use TouchNooter, it is easier ...

Threw this together to showcase all that we've got going on here over on the XDA forums.

Credits been given where credit is due.
Probably won't be too entertaining for anyone who has already rooted their nook. ;)

You can find my wallpaper here:
    nookDroid

Imaged is sized so you don't have any issues cropping it using the default Android gallery app.

    No problems here,WTF, just exploration.
    Lol, just checking.

Thanks folks for your reply! Calling their support indeed helped, I made a really STUPID mistake of registering onto a wrong account ([email protected] instead of [email protected]) but B&N website was nice enough to not detect that it isn't a valid email address :/
Haha, I've been working with computers all my life, I can't tell you how many times I've encountered something that's frustrated me to some lengthy extent to only come to the conclusion that I mistyped something or it was a simple mistake.

Lastly, I switched out three of the theme for Button Savior with my own icons to increase contrast. I totally redrew them from scratch, only one I copied over was the "Settings" button, made my own and didn't like it. Liked the old one too much. I'll contact jerryfan2000 and see if he'll have a problem with me either
    A) Sending him my themes so he can make a release for us or
    B) Let me redistribute under the premise that I use test keys to sign the apk.

Until then, I made two mistakes that I need to fix before I post any apk.

    There's three themes.
    • Black and white (Black outline, white center)
    • Metro (Black Square, white center) Like WP7
    • Transparent (Black outline, white center at 15% opacity[Not in photo])

I also doubled the size of the "Minimize" button and reskinned it. God-sent if you ask me.

I'll get to this over the weekend.
WHY did I take summer classes this semester!? Man I'm stupid, no free time. Doesn't help that I work too.

Check Signature for link to TouchNooter, which contains Root/Su/Busybox/Gapps and some extras.

Thanks the forum for information about rooting the NookTouch. I rooted my new NookTouch and tried various programs. FYI, the following is the list of programs that work and don't work on NookTouch.
