I was wondering if I can upgrade to the NF4 from NF1 without reinstalling the whole rom? I don't want to have to reinstall all of my apps.
I took the full image, and flashed it through ODIN, and it worked perfect. Flashed right over the old one. No apps, settings, or anything else was lost. You will lose root, so you'll need to root, and install a custom recovery again, but if you stay stock all you have to do is flash it.

i just flashed mine. make sure to "phone bootloader update" in odin. ins a little under the first column of things that can be ticked. i just odin'ed the modem and BL just fine. also make sure to use triangle away first. you can find that in the google play store or simply googling "triangle away xda" and get the apk from the thread

To update to NF4 from NE6 or NF1 rooted with Knox 0x0:

***NOTE THIS IS NOT GUARANTEED TO WORK AND I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE IF YOU BRICK YOUR DEVICE***

  1. Download the FULL stock firmware package above directly to your device
  2. Download and install Mobile Odin Pro (MUST BE PRO VERSION) From the google play store
  3. Download and install Triangale Away from the google play store
  4. Launch Mobile Odin Pro and select "Open file ..." and select the FULL stock firmware package you downloaded above
  5. Make sure the checkboxes for "Enable EverRoot", "Inject SuperUser (SuperSU)", and "Inject Mobile Odin" are checked
  6. Click "After Flash ..." and select Download Mode
  7. Download the MODEM+NON-HLOS combined package and the BL package from the first post to your PC
  8. Download and extract Odin 3.09 to your PC
  9. Launch Odin on your PC
  10. On your PC in Odin, click "BL" and select the BL package you downloaded above
  11. On your PC in Odin, click "CP" and select the MODEM+NON-HLOS package you downloaded above
  12. On your PC in Odin, make sure ONLY the "Auto-Reboot" and "Phone Bootloader Update" boxes are checked
  13. On your phone, in Mobile Odin Pro, click "Flash Firmware" and follow the prompts
  14. Once your device reboots into download mode (and doesn't have the progress bar), connect it to your PC using the USB cable
  15. Once Odin 3.09 sees your device, click "Start"
  16. Once your phone reboots you should be on NF4, rooted, stock, and Knox 0x0

Enjoy! :good: :D

EDIT: Step 3 is optional. If you download and install it, the only reason you'd need it is if the modem and/or bootloader do not stick.
EDIT2: Added instructions for the MODEM+NON-HLOS package for Odin that I accidentally left out. Oops!
Thank you for posting this!

Does anyone know why mobile odin doesn't succeed in flashing some of these files? I don't mind using a combination of mobile and PC, but I'm just curious.

Two big ones for me are the Fake ID is patched, and VoLTE. I've noticed calls are a lot clearer. Very good quality. Also they added a locations quick button toggle when you pull the notification bar down, and some new smoother animations.

VoLTE has been enabled since NE6.

VoLTE has been enabled since NE6.
While NE6 did enable volte, it was only for certain markets and has had issues (such as volte tower handoff and 2g handoff - ran into these in particular in Chicago). I'm thinking maybe these have been resolved in nf4 now that they've had it out in test markets for a few months. Haven't been able to test the handoff issues because of the great coverage here in Huntsville AL, but perhaps it's fixed.

Another issue was nf1 (a volte update to ne6) could sometimes fail to allow calls at all on 2g when volte handoff to 2g failed while in a call. I'm hoping this is also fixed.

If you read the post, that's exactly what you're doing here. The CSC is only needed if you run into issues, as it's flashed with the full firmware. The reason I put the modem flash in the desktop odin part is just to help attempt to stick it.
Worked for me the Mobile odin pro way but i did have to flash CSC file after BL file to get it to quit saying Samsung KB has stopped. Thanks again! :good:

In order to get the baseband to stick, you must enter download mode via the buttons after the phone is completely turned off. It is this way for the S5 also. If you flash via odin after using the os to boot into download mode the modem won't stick.

Is the link to the modem incorrect? Filename says NF1?

Yes you could first time I flashed nf4, using Mobile Odin my Wi-Fi calling broke. So I flashed back to ne6, and Towel rooted. Then flashed nf1, and then flashed to nf4. Knox didn't trip, just when using Mobile Odin to flash to nf1, or nf4 firmware remove your Sim card before hand to prevent Wi-Fi calling from breaking.

I successfully upgraded to NF4 without tripping Knox while retaining root and was hopeful that removing the SIM would fix the Wi-Fi calling issue getting stuck on Enabling. I had the SIM removed throughout the entire process. Wi-Fi still got stuck on Enabling so for me, removing the SIM had no effect. I had to do a factory reset to get it working again just like before. I normally do a factory reset anytime I install new firmware anyway since I have seen it prevent a lot of issue in my time on Android. It isn't always necessary but I have had good luck with this method.

Also to note, I did have to install the CSC file at the end as I did when I upgraded to NF1 from NE6 as many people have had to do. Phone Info showed my CSC was missing but after installing the CSC file, everything was good to go.

I could be wrong but i think you have to take out the SIM card going from E6-F4 or from E6-F1-F4 and not from F1-F4 if you did not take it out from E6 for it to hold the WiFi Calling.
