Hey guys-

Did a search and didn't find a solution.

My daughter's Aria (rooted + FR008 since December) got broken and we have an insurance replacement here.

The new phone is "upgraded" with 2.2.2 from the factory and HBOOT 1.02.0000

I can't seem to get it to root. She is quite upset that I can't restore her backup from her other phone, and she has gotten quite hooked on the reliability of the ATT-less phone.

I used unrevoked latest version and it said "firmware too new" and wouldn't root. I can get it to boot into the boot loader but if I choose "recovery" then I get the red exclamation point. Frankly I don't want anything but to get this phone to behave just like the old one.

So does anyone have a solution that will allow me to root this phone or restore a nandroid backup?

Thanks!

Your replacement has had the official AT&T Froyo 2.2 update applied to it. This update upgraded the HBOOT loader to version 1.02 which has now rendered the phone unrootable using the previous Unrevoked method.

As of now there is no software solution to root the phone. The only option you have is to find someone the has a hardware device called the XTC Clip which can reset the Aria's Security flag (S-OFF) so that the /system partition can be modified. Check the General section of this forum for more information.

what about the so-called "gold card"?
No, not even a gold card will help. The HBOOT 1.02 boot loader has plugged all of the known security holes that existed in previous versions and as of yet, no new security hole has been found to exploit and gain root access.

well, that stinks.

guess I had better get more protective of my own Aria. Not going to pay $200 for a XTC clip to fix this.

I'm also one of the victims of HBOOT 1.02, let me know if there is any update...

Ok, I've seen you post on several threads on 2 different forums now. If you would read the threads, you will see that they have been updated with a solution. Now it may not be the solution you are looking for (meaning FREE), but it is a solution none the less.

Here is a link to the Aria IRC chat room that has the updated information:
