As myself and a few others have said in this very same thread, you must stick with a 4.4.2 rom. That means nothing earlier than kitkat. Any rom that is based on kitkat should work, and no other rom will. Rom slots are not working at this time.

To summarize:
The only recovery you can use is safestrap 3.72
Safestrap 3.72 will not let you utilize rom slots right now. only stock slot.
The only roms you will be able to use are 4.4.2 based roms. NO jellybean roms will work (4.3).

I Would love to figure out how to get wifi tether working now...foxfi sucks
Try this. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.snclab.wifitetherrouter

It worked great for me

If I install the proper build of Cyanogen mod on my Note 3, can I get the s-pen functions to work. Sorry, I'm new to all this.

I'm sure there is something about s pen functions in the cyanogen mod forum.
Possibly and app or maybe even xposed may have something. I dunno.

You need the developer edition note 3 to run cyanogen mod.
And considering you are "new" to this. I'm going to go ahead and say you don't have the DE note 3 and can not run any cyanogen roms.

You got it, thanks so much. I don't have the developer edition. Honestly, I have no clue what I'm doing. My phone is rooted with safestrap installed. All I want is a smoother than stock experience without all the bloat and better battery life. If I can keep the pen, that's nice too. Thanks again.

You're my HERO! *SWOON*

I just rooted my Note 3 using Towelroot method and it didn't trip the Knox counter

1. Just install Towelroot.apk from http://towelroot.com/

2. Open Towerroot to root than reboot

3. install Root checker from the Play store to check root

4. install Supersu from http://download.chainfire.eu/447/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.99r4.zip - Unzip and install APK, open and let it uninstall Knox and Reboot.

For more details refer to - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2783157

Installing Safestrap:

After Rooting and Supersu is installed follow below steps to install safestrap:

1. Install Busybox app from Play store https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=stericson.busybox&hl=en

2. Install Safestrap from herehttp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2517610 and follow instructions in the thread

It's important to note that it's still preferable to be on NC2, because of the "special features" that were never meant to make it to the public.

NC2 is the best... but if you accidentally OTA'd, or got a new phone (or replacement) that had NC4 on it... then towel root is your only option to root, where previously there was none. The big news and the big deal is for people that previously did not have root because they ended up on NC4... and there may be additional benefits that come from the development of the method; any knowledge gained about the software on our phones is advantageous, if not necessarily useful.

I have friends that always want the latest OTA for their phones, in spite of the fact that most of the time, OTAs work against us, not in our favor. This is a hard mindset to overcome.

Everybody - KEEP NC2 IF YOU HAVE THE OPTION.

To be honest, a "custom rom" is not really going to do any of that for you. I mean, it will remove bloat... But that bloat isn't doing anything except sitting there.

I think back in the Eclair and Froyo days a custom rom like CM really helped the experience. But now - stock roms are the smoothest, bug-free roms you can run. Custom roms are more about options and customization. But I haven't been on a custom rom that I can remember that has been any faster or smoother than the firmware that came on the phone.

Just my opinion.

@theop - thanks for the post. Have you noticed any negative impact as far as performance when using this root method? I understand that it is a kernel exploit - so I was told that it would absolutely not effect the phone performance. But I love some input from a first hand user.

I'm sure you are correct. Maybe it's interface I'm after. I hate the Samsung look to everything. The sms app looks like it was designed with Windows xp. I replaced it, of course. My work phone is a nexus 5 and I absolutely love it. But my personal phone is a Verizon phone, so I can't get the nexus. If I could get something like aosp with s-pen functions I'd be as happy as a pig in mud.

I towelrooted this morning, installed SU (chainfire's) - got the same error "cannot parse package" - however it worked even though when I went in SU it said the binary was wrong and updating it would fail (play store version). Tried to do the CWM method since i got frustrated at the SU error - and the CWM soft bricked the phone. Now im going to odin it back to stock - when the download is done in 2 hours... Oh well all is fair in device freedom and rooting : )

Proud Note 3 owner of ~96 hours so far : )

P.S. Geohot is amazing.

Also, of note - titanium backed up the phone prior to the soft bricking - titanium on NC4 still suffers the cannot write to external SD issue.. FYI - if you think your schedules will run - might want to double check.
Of course Titanium can backup to ExtSDCard. I do all the time. You just have to change the permissions on the mount point.

I forget the exact steps...but I used root explorer to copy the backup directory (used under MJE) from the external SD card to the internal one. Remove the backup directory from ext SD card, then change permissions on the mount point and have Titanium create a new backup directory.

Works fine.

Experiencing a little trouble with NC4. TowelRoot is by far the easiest no-brainer rooting method ever. It's easier than downloading most apks from the Play Store. No need to install drivers on your desktop or jump through a lot of hoops. Kudos to this developer. Please support him!!!

The first thing I noticed was more signal bars. YES!!!!

After I downloaded Root Checker, I verified that I was indeed rooted. Sometimes I get the Custom Logo when I reboot, other times I don't. Where I started experiencing problems is when I downloaded my old Titanium Backup Pro and Greenify Donation apks. Now RootChecker states that my system is running slow and that I am NOT rooted properly.

I'll keep playing with this until I get it right.

Did you restore your apps with TBu? If you restored an old SU that might be the problem.

No, I am no longer rooted. I only downloaded SuperSu Pro, TB Pro, and Greenify Donation. Afterward, I got errors when opening these apks. I then realized that I should rebuild my binaries through SuperSu, but even then that failed. I rebooted and got the "Custom" logo, but now Root Checker says that the system is running slow and that I am NOT rooted (any longer).

I'm tempted to download TowelRoot again and see what happens.

Answer found:
I had downloaded SuperSu and SuperSu Pro from the Google Play Store listed under "My Apps". This action downloaded an earlier version of SuperSu (v. 194) and it failed to update the binaries. There was no way I could remove the program the correct way because it wouldn't allow me to enter the program to do so. Once I removed it using another utility, it left traces on my phone to where the Play Store would not allow me to re-download it again. Kinda stuck in limbo.

Today I decided to look on the Play Store to see if they had an updated version of SuperSu, and they did! Version 2.00. It allowed me to install it (possibly because it was not the same version) and I did. Once I tried to launch it, I got the message that it failed and to reboot. I rebooted, and to my amazement, everything worked out this time.

The solution is to make sure that you are using the most current version when you install something from the Play Store. This problem may encompass all previous downloads from any developer that is saved in the "My Apps" page of Google Play.

I'm really curious if we can downgrade our modems this way.

I bought my phone used with NC4 already on it and the radio pretty much sucks. I hear the previous modems were much better.

Has anybody noticed any negative effects from the NC4 OTA? Any battery issues or weird stuff? I remember on NC2 a lot of people were complaining and reverting back to a previous version. So I'm curious if this version is nice and stable with good battery...

Un-Root?

THANK YOU....:good:
THANK YOU....:good:
THANK YOU....:good:

I'm so happy to have ROOT back. I use Tasker to help automate my phone and needed root badly. Now that i have root, i have a question on Un-Rooting the Device. Is there any way to do that without Flashing back to Stock which will wipe everything?
