neccessary to wipe cache and wipe date before and after a theme or mod installation?

is it neccessary to wipe cache and wipe data before and after a mod or theme or any other installation ...i did both before a mod flash and after it so it worked fine but i did not do them before another mod flash but did them after the installation which resulted in bootloop ..is it important to do it before to ? thank you for your answer

Depends of the instructions in the thread. If problems happens can also be a bug from the mod

The instructions on the post are pretty clear
INSTALLATION
CWM
WIPE CACHE
INSTALL ZIP FROM SD
REBOOT

Is different from each mod. If they don't say anything, probably you just need to flash it trough cwm. Otherwise they would post instructions on the post. And in that case the person that create the mod/thread says that you need to wipe the cache before you flash it. So, you should always follow the instructions of each thread to avoid problems : )

edit: Also beware that some mods are only for some versions of cm. Don't try to flash incompatible mods
