im trying to avoid any shady rooting process since ive heard story of a root app that was taken over by a chinese company possibly to gather info on its user unsuspectingly.
my android version is 6.0.1
also if i root will my data be wiped

Just flash twrp using Odin.

After that, flash SuperSU or Magisk through twrp.
