So i was reading this thread about rooting the H910 with dirtysanta.

This part had me confused tho:
This should work on any H910 version, up to v20g, that is no longer rootable by DirtySanta (IE: dirtycow has been patched). It has been tested on 10m to 20g
Since this method had been tested on 10m to 20g, and i have 10l which lower than 10m, do you think i should upgrade to 10m first before continuing the guide?

UPDATE: Scratch that, people have reported it working with 10L.

Also, i think i might quit asking questions which stray away from this thread so that others who had doubts about which V20 variant to buy wont have to read stuff that have nothing to do with that.

Thanks so much to everyone that helped to clarify things up.

I hope I don't run into any problems while rooting, but if i do, I will be sure to probably create a new thread or ask in the Noob Friendly thread.

Thanks once more

Personally since your on a security patch that's early I'd use the dirty santa method versus the other simply because that one requires you to flash the h915 firmware, which could cause connectivity issues, whereas dirty santa doesn't require you to flash a different variants rom

Could you please provide a link to the Dirty Santa thread?

Thanks, as i read through, i noticed that "AM&FM Radio no longer works".
Does this mean i wont be able to use FM Radio after rooting with this guide?

There's also a second guide that has a few more screenshots to guide you along:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/v20/how-to/guide-root-twrp-lg-v20-using-dirtysanta-t3722278
Definitely look at both guides to make sure you're following each step correctly.
Yes Sir! I just noticed that my current ROM doesn't allow hotspot. For that reason, i was wondering which stock ROM or stock based ROM has KCAL and Hotspot functionality enabled?

For what it's worth, FM radio still worked for my two LS997s after rooting.

There was a tweak on the H910 for enabling hotspot at least on Nougat:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/v20/how-to/to-root-v20-h910-tested-to-hotspot-t3838895
Perhaps cnjax can weigh in on that.

I am thinking of going with this thread as it supports linux.

Now once i am done with step 2, step 3 which is supposed to flash TWRP and quite possibly flash a boot kernel which used to be one that fixed screen issues and stuff.

Now i was wondering....Could i skip this step (Step 3) and probably flash the latest TWRP and also flash a stock based Oreo ROM with an updated SuperSU since the TWRP and Boot Kernel in the guide might be outdated.

Also, once i am done rooting with that method, would i be able to flash Oreo ROMs? Or would i be stuck with just Nougat ROMs.

As I stated previously no problem with FM radio working, not sure about Hotspot as I never use it. Follow the guide, once you have the bootloader unlocked and twrp installed, from within twrp update to the latest version of twrp by flashing it using the IMG option. Perform a back up, then wipe system, davlik cache, format data, then flash your rom, I recommend Alpha Omega nougat or Oreo, immediately flash the mk2000 kernel, then flash supersu or magisk before your first boot to system.

Hmmm....So i used this thread. I was able to flash TWRP. Now i keep getting static boot when trying to boot into the stock ROM.

I was able to fully boot to android after flashing the bootbackup.img. But now, it wont boot to android anymore. It's just stuck on the static boot.

I am trying to boot into recovery but that's not working either. I was able to boot into TWRP previously tho. Anyway while i was in TWRP i wasn't able to access my Internal SD, had to slot in an SDCard to flash v1.5 of mk2000 and that didn't boot either.

Don't know what's going on now

UPDATE: I booted to fastboot and typed "fastboot boot bootbackup.img"
Although there was static boot, it booted into android once more.

Is there a version of mk2000 that works with my software version?

UPDATE 2: I am able to boot into android with my stock which was renamed to bootback.img during bootloader unlock.
I still get static screen during boot and i have to cover the proximity sensor while locking the screen to get rid of the static screen for that boot session.
I am also unable to root the device. I am pretty sure it's because i am booting the stock boot. Back on the G3, the stock boot prevented root. Hence the devs had to make a custom boot which would keep root intact.

Currently, I am experiencing problems with broadband and as a result, i wont be able to download a ROM(a whooping 2.*GB) as i am using mobile data. Hence i was wondering if i could find an MK2000 boot which supports the H91010L ROM I am on at the moment. That way i would be able to root, set KCAL values and enjoy the battery life this ROM provoides. (I got 24+ hours with light usage on a single charge).

UPDATE 3: I just found a boot/kernel called BTTF from this thread. It claims to support KCAL i hope it fixes the static boot and keeps root.

That's the mk2000 kernel for Nougat, flash it, that should get rid of static on boot, if you are having a problem with rooting with either supersu or magisk it could be the twrp version you're on. If you choose to use use supersu, go with supersu 2.82 sr5 it's the last version built by Chainfire, after flashing the kernel you should immediately flash either magisk or supersu before booting to the os otherwise your device will re-encrypt

Do i have to factory reset too?

I am stuck on secure first boot or something like that.

My old knock code wont work, So i have wiped cache, data and dalvik yet i can't seem to get pass the secure first boot.

UPDATE: So i wiped the entire data partition and with that, i was able to boot into android. Surprisingly, there was no SuperSU app nor does typing su in terminal emulator work.

I am pretty sure that the device didn't re-encrypt as i am able to access the internal storage from TWRP.

I am reflashing SuperSU again. Will report back.

Everything seems to be working fine. No more image retention.

Yet, i noticed battery life is not as it used to be. Same applies to snappiness of the device. It used to be much snappier.

I guess i am gonna hold on to it for now until i can download the stock but fully rooted Oreo ROM.

I'd like to thank all you guys that helped right from guiding me through acquiring the next big variant of the V20 down to unlocking it's bootloader, rooting and flashing MK2000.

I hope this thread helps others in the future just as it helped me.

I might bother you guys should i face any challenges tho:p

It's working now. TWRP is working, Kernel seems to be working with no static screen, SuperSU app is displaying.

I seem to be getting a force close on every boot tho.
That force close is an old bug, dev meant to remove the app, you can just delete app to get rid of the force close on boot. You need to let the kernel settle for a bit before judging battery and other stuff. You should find better battery less heat, etc compared to the stock kernal. Look up AKT I use it with the mk2000 kernel and get great battery life

Oh...Ohkay. I will remove the app then. I just got an "Unfortunately, android has stopped." Not sure how to go about that tho.

I will checkout AKT right away.
