Watch this video, is a test with my xperia ray, the widget does work in any pocisión, depending on where you will let automatic brightness, look you in the video and see how low the intensity of the brightness automatically.

I just did a test without the widget on and yet I ran the automatic brightness, so you do not need this.

I hope I have clarified their doubts, greetings.

Goddammit, it just won't work :s
Could you post the android market link of the widget you're using please? The sensor is only responding in the service menu

I confirm, it works without widget, do not need it, I tried it ..:)
Well, it seems to work now after installing and even uninstalling Backlight!, but waaaay less responsive/sensitive than yours. Maybe it has something to do with my OC kernel

Thanks for your help ;)

I am running on stock kernel and the stepping is very good. It worked straight after making the changes on the hw_ file, replacing the als_ file, and rebooting my device. Thank You to the author :)

PS: No need to install/uninstall any Backlight app for it to wotk.

Got this working last week but noticed that the stepping wasn't as it should be (i.e.: from 1% - 99%). I'm currently looking at the als_curve.conf and hw_config.sh files to see how this can be made to work as it would on other phones.

Thanks again for the hack arcatarc!

Yes, indeed the stepping is not right, and there are issues with he screen flickering on low light conditions. It is slightly improoved with the original als_ file, but still not sleek.

I make a test with my untouch Xperia Ray, the light sensor seem working, but under very strong light. I put the LED torch in front of the sensor and the screen going brighter. It mean that you will not feel any change of the screen bright under normal light for ex. in your house, out side but under shade and just only feel it brighter under direct sun light.
So I kept original setting but also thanks to arcatarc tips.

Works great! Thanx man!

Note:
To see it's working, you need very strong light. I used light with 190 lumen (150m range light) to see its working nicely. When trying to see change while covering sensor with finger, or with room light i saw nothing cause brithness change is very low to see it with eyes. I think on direct sunshine u will see the change while covering sensor with the finger...

Oh,you should adjust the "brightness"to 30% or less{ in "settings "} ,and in outdoor ambient, the sensor will automaticlly enhance the brightness max to 100%.

The light sensor worked already in the service menu, and even after doing this modification I can't set screen brightness to automatic in the settings.

Also, I'm pretty sure screen brightness changed according to outside light (tested it with a torch) even before, so, basically, I'm pretty sure this mod does nothing.

If you are so sure why you have try it?

What? I had to try it to be sure. Anyway, I have no proof that it really does nothing (I said "I'm pretty sure"), I could be wrong.

Maybe now it's more sensitive? I don't know since I haven't tested it extensively before. All I'm sure of is that the sensor already worked in the service menu, and that the screen brightness changed slightly even before the mod. Also, the light sensor still doesn't show up in test programs such as Z Device Test.

That's why I'm skeptical about this mod.
