Need unbranded firmware to edit APN settings for my SM-G900V

Hi,

I was recently traveling in the USA and bought online the Verizon SM-G900 because I thought it was fully unlocked. As it turns, the APN settings are locked, and when I got back to Spain I couldn't edit them to use my domestic carrier.

I first updated the system to Lollipop 5.0 (PB1 version) and then I did a factory reset and flashed VZW_BPB1_ODEX_DEODEX_V9 via Safestrap as I had read somewhere that it would unlock the APN settings (enabling the Deodex settings). No luck. APN settings are still locked --they're grayed out and I cannot add new APN settings.

I tried a few other workarounds --using BuildProp editor, etc-- but none of them seem to work.

I read online that if I use an unbranded firmware (CSC OXA) the APN settings will be unlocked. Is that true? If so, where could I find an unbranded firmware compatible with my unit?

thanks a lot!!!

Is your phone bootloader unlocked (using the recent exploit http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-galaxy-s5/development/rd-unlocking-galaxys-s5-bootloader-t3337909)? Maybe try flashing the G900F version of CM13. It won't support CDMA out of box, but I don't know if the network you'll be switching to will require that.

If you aren't bootloader unlocked, then you might have some luck with one of JrKruse's Note 5 ports. I've had some trouble with them working on Verizon (I think because they didn't support CDMA fully at the time), but the APN settings ARE changeable. Don't flash a rom for another variant unless it has been ported - if you're bootloader locked you cannot edit the kernel and it will most likely eat your cat.

I'm not too experienced in this category - these will most likely work, but I'm assuming there's some easier way, I just don't know of one.

Hi,

no luck! I tried both ROMS, but the APN settings are still blocked! I'm probably doing something wrong, so here's what I did:

1) Somewhere along the line my phone got stuck on the Samsung logo, so I flashed the official firmware G900VVRU2BPB1_G900VVZW2BPB1_VZW via Odin
2) I rooted the unit via Odin with the OK3_ROOT_V5 package (using the PB1 kernel)
3) I rebooted into Safestrap, wiped cache, data and system.
4) I flashed VZW_BPB1_ODEX_DEODEX_V9 -- APN settings blocked. See pic below
5) I rebooted into Safestrap, wiped cache, data and system.
6) I flashed ToxicROM Note5 v1/S6 BETA G900V -- APN settings blocked. See pic below.
7) I rebooted into Safestrap, wiped cache, data and system.
8) I flashed Pure_note 5_port_5.1.1 rom -- APN settings blocked.

I'm obviously missing something here, right? Again, I'm new to flashing. The Pure Note rom comes with the stock fw and it might block the APN settings, but I think the Toxic Rom should not block the APN settings and, yet, they're blocked:

Add a new APN. The Verizon APN will always be grayed out and you won't be able to edit it. Go to APN's, there should be a + sign to add a new one. When you're done typing in the new settings just press the 3 dots and hit save. Once you've added the new APN select it. I usually reboot afterward and everything works.

Hi, thanks for the tip, but the + sign is grayed out --if you take a close look at the attached pics, you'll notice the + sign is unavailable! For some reason, the APN settings are still blocked. I'm probably missing something obvious, I just don't know what it is.

Those roms are made for Verizon only , can not use them on different carriers . I assume this is the reason can not edit apn.( First time probably have to enable gsm bands )

Maybe flash one off the Verizon internationals roms ( alliance , phoenix ) . Also you can try because you got nothing to loose (now you can not use the phone ) , http://forum.xda-developers.com/ver...how-to-enable-lte-band-41700-2100-to-t2990105

Well, I tried the following ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-galaxy-s5/development/bsfreelollipop5-0rombpb1based-t3331541 following all the steps, and the phone rebooted fine... but the APN settings are still blocked! And the default Verizon APN is still there!

Then I rebooted into Safestrap and installed Phoenix 11 rom. I kind of feared it would mess with my locked bootloader and the phone would get stuck in a bootloop, but I rebooted safely. The phone is not bricked! The directions say that "If running previous 5.0 rom flash Phoenix Rom then BOG5 firmware zip", but I'm not sure I should do that because my stock fw is/was PB1. Should I go ahead and try that BOG5 fw or should I try to find the PB1 fw and flash it? The unit seems to be fine without that fw, but maybe I need it anyway.
The APN settings do NOT seem to be blocked under Phoenix: the default Verizon APN is gone and I can use the + sign. However, when I hit save after creating a new APN, the new APN is not listed. I tried that several times, but for some reason new APNs are not saved (or at least I cannot see them).

Do you think I should flash the PB1 fw?

Thanks, I would definitely like to try those Verizon international roms. I cannot seem to find them online. Any idea as to where to find them?

mmm... did you mean the rom in the link below, for instance?

http://forum.xda-developers.com/ver...enix-rom-9-0-ported-g900v-ported-rom-t3188443

won't it mess with my locked bootloader?
Yes , alliance and Phoenix. It won't affect bootloader because they are made for Verizon ( just make sure you download them from here only : http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-galaxy-s5/development ) You stated you got Verizon phone. Then in both roms should have galaxy tools so you you might changes to GSM bands. After that need just apn editor maybe.

Thanks again, I tried both Phoenix and Alliance, but I cannot seem to change the GSM band. I'm told to insert the SIM card, but the SIM card is inserted! I used a little app called APN settings shortcut, which allows you to get to the APN settings bypassing the "other mobile networks" menu. Even though the + sign is available, whenever I add a new APN and then hit "save", the new APN is NOT saved, and I cannot use it.

When using the Phoenix rom, I took a look at the Phone properties, and I noticed that I'm still using Verizon's fw (the CSC code is VZW), which probably prevents me from editing the APN settings.

Should I use a non-VZW firmware?
